Exchange 2003 DL wont show up properly in outlook 2003
Hi, We got problem at out customer with distribution lists. There are around 140 mail enabled DLs and over 50% are not shown correctly on outlook 2003 client. If I open outlook->Address Book -> one of the broken DL and properties. In general tab Display name shows like this: dc=com,dc=company,ou=recipients,cn=grou012345. We can repaire this by removing and adding email address again to DL. But if we do this for all 140 DLs it brokes the ones wich worked before. RUS rebuild does not help on this problem. What should be next steps to identify the problem source?

Does this occur for users in Cached Mode AND Online Mode? I'm thinking potential Offline Address Book corruption.

Nothing in App log. I dont wanna repair these manually because i think these DLs will get broken again. Im trying to make new OAB tonight. if you got somekind of suggestion? If new oab doesnt work i will increase logging in exchange.

Hi, 1. Please ensure the issue occurs both on cache mode and online mode. 2. Please check whether any AD replication issue exists. 3. Gather the DL attributes (a good one and a bad one) and compares them You can export the DL attributes by using Ldifde tool For your reference: Using LDIFDE to import and export directory objects to Active Directory http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237677 Mike

What should be next steps to identify the problem source? It looks like there is a corruption in the Outlook PST file. Check if the outlook address book is enable or not and check the contacts folder too and then restart outlook. Now check if the error is occurring again or not. If not then its fine and you will access all the contacts in your address book and perform all the desired operations with the address book. If you are still getting the problem accessing address book and error messages then you should try free PST Repair program. There are many companies that are making pst repair software. Download one of them and install on your computer. Then run it from program files or from the icon present on your desktop. This will not take much time and it will easily scan and fix all the problems present inside the file. This will be the best solution.Regards, William Pablow http://www.scanpstexe.com

When you see the display messages in the DN format it usually means the legacyExchangeDN went missing and outlook cannot resolve it. Try adding the legacyexchangedn as an x500 email address on the DL and see if it resolves in the GAL correctly. Format would be like below. /O=MyOrg/OU=Corp/cn=Recipients/cn=groupname James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
