Exchange 2003 - Unable to relay for user error
We are running Exchange 2003. I'm using a little command utility called sendemail. When I try to send through our Exchange server (to an internal user), I get the error below. I can send fine with Outlook. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this? Thanks.
Apr 30 07:04:53 a11351 sendemail[4672]: WARNING => The recipient
user@domain.com was rejected by the mail server, error follows:
Apr 30 07:04:53 a11351 sendemail[4672]: WARNING => Received: 550 5.7.1 Unable
to relay for user@domain.com
Apr 30 07:04:53 a11351 sendemail[4672]: ERROR => Exiting. No recipients were acc
epted for delivery by the mail server.

From the source where youre running the utility, it's probably not allowed to relay off your Exchange server. Try adding to the relay allowed and test again.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you please be more specific? When you say "try adding to the relay allowed" do you mean...
go to Server > Protocols > SMTP > SMTP Virtual Server properties > Access tab > Relay and add the IP from where I'm trying to send from?
If so, I've tried that and it still won't allow me to send. I also have "allow all computers which successfully authenticate..." selected. Do you have to wait a period before that setting becomes active. I tried sending immediately after the change.
The thing that that is odd in the error message is that is states " 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for
user@domain.com" The user is referenced, not the machine. Could there be something else causing this?
Thanks,
Scott

My bad. I forgot to add the access to the bridgehead servers. After that, I could send.
Thanks for your help.
