Exchange 2003 - Sending mail using an alias address
Hi
I'm running exchange 2003 and exchange 2010 in the same environment with only a few mailboxes moved over to exchange 2010. I have a user who needs to send the occasional email
using an address that is defined in his mailbox but is not his primary address (Alias). My thought was to use the “From” field when sending an email and just enter his alias email address, but when I try this approach I receive the following error:
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
From what I've read via Google searches this cannot be done. But there is a work around using distribution lists.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

You may create an email address policy to use the alias as part of the email address:
