Can anyone tell me please how to simply create a shared / generic mailbox in Microsoft Exchange 2003 I want to give 5 members of staff access to the same global shared mailboxwhich will have one email address associated with it such as "support@" Do you really need to create a fake "user" account just to get a mailbox or is there a better way

for a mailbox to receive mail, yes you need a user account. other options could include sending it to a group or public folder, depending on your needs.

Mike, Thanks for your advice. Can you explain to me please the following:- I created a new user no problem. When I launch outlook on my client PC I can add the new mailbox, but it wont let me view or see any of the folders. I am assuming there is a permissions setting somewhere. Can you expain simply what steps I need to take in order to get it working properly. Could you also explain to me the difference between the group or public folder option - which is best and how do you create them. Russ.

1) Did you create a mailbox for this user, or just the user account? If you did create the mailbox, you need to wait "a little bit" until RUS applies the updates to the address fields. 2) a group is a collection of users, contacts, mailboxes, etc that can have an email applied to. each user will get a copy of the message sent to sales@whatever.com if they are in the group called sales, and your domain is whatever.com 2a) a public folder is a seperate database within exchange that can be accessed via outlook or outlook web access. its not a part of anybodys mailbox, meaning its possibly more of a pain to manage, but it keeps things more accessable (generally speaking)
