Exchange 2003 - Expired Reminder Flags and RED Category are automatically set in some users mailboxes
My client is running Exchange 2003 Std. on a Windows Server 2003 box. Over the past couple of months, a few users (with largest mailboxes) have experienced this problem. Older emails will show with an 'expired reminder flag' (so the whole email appears RED), many but not all of those have the RED Category set, and the oldest in each of these affected folders will show an expired flag with the icon like these were sent from another user (little red chckmark with the green person in the icon). None of these affected emails will archive, and no errors are reported. This is only showing in some subfolders of their Inbox, and no pattern can be reported, except that it seems to be getting worse - meaning it seems to be affecting more folders and newer emails emails in each group are being affected.I've updated and run full scans for viruses and malware - all clean.I've run Office diagnostics - all OK.I've recreated their Offline Files (OST)yet it continues...This is causing major problems with these users because not only can they not archive those messages, but these 'organizational features' are being compromized. Please reply if you've ever seen this issue and/or have suggestions as to how to repair it. THANK YOU!Bob B.

Yes, it is the same on the server mailbox (online or OWA). I've re-created the Offline file a couple of times. So far, only the two largest mailbox users have noticed this problem. But, it keeps spreading to other subfolders in their mailboxes. It seems to be effecting all email messages before 06/2009, but there is no rhyme or reason - and only in some subfolders, and none in the actual Inbox. The date seemed to be creeping to older dates as well (started around 08/2009 and older messages). If it is happening in a particular folder, then it seems to get worse over time. You can uncheck the Flag and Red Category, but that also defeats the purpose of using them in the first place. It also doesn't answer WHY it is happening. There is only one mailbox store for all users. There are no rules set on either mailbox. This, by far, is the strangest thing I've come across while working with Exchange!Bob B.

Yes, please move the mailbox to another store and test the issue again. Please also check if there is any hidden rules in your Outlook according to the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924297 Thanks,Elvis

Thanks for the replies. I cannot create a new mailbox store - error states "This storage group contains the maximum number of stores allowed" ID no: c1034a7a (it is running Exchange Standard - is that one of the limitations?)I tried creating another Storage Group and then another mailbox store - same error.I will try the article you suggested above and check for any hidden rules (Rules were my 1st thought that could be causing this issue). Thanks,Bob B.Bob B.

Still didn't get too far. I did not find any hidden rules for either mailbox, and I have no answers yet. I cannot create another mailbox store - is that a limitation of the Standard Edition?Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.Bob B.
