Hello, Start -> Run -> services.msc Microsoft Exchange pop3 start the service in the exchange server Configure the outlook user by using pop3 mail account Start Outlook. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts. Under E-mail Accounts, click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next. Click POP3 as the type of account that you are creating, and then click Next. In the Your Name box, enter your name exactly as you would like it to appear to recipients. In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address. In the User Name box, type your account name. In the Password box, type your password. In the Incoming mail server (POP3) box, type the name of your POP3 server. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type the name of your SMTP server. You need SMTP to send your messages. Click Next after you have completed entering this configuration information, and then click Finish. Thanks Mhussain

Thanks very much for your reply. I hope you don't mind me asking...the server side, is it really as simple as: Start -> Run -> services.msc Microsoft Exchange pop3 start the service in the exchange server ? I thought I'd need to go into Exchange manager on the server or something similar Thanks again Gav

Hi You need to start the POP3 service which is by default disable, you need to check the outlook client using a pop account and also you can telnet port 110 which is used for POP3. Thanks mhussain

Why do need to use Dynamic IP? It is a best practice to use static IP for application servers like Exchange. Anyway, look at the following article for configuring POP3: http://msmvps.com/blogs/andersonpatricio/articles/AP0035.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998454(EXCHG.65).aspx Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

You'll also need to provide a SMTP server that users can authenticate to. Why the need to "move" to POP3? How do your clients connect to the Exchange Server now to access their mail?

Hi I provide basic I.T. support (this topic is above what I'd normally have to do). A business analyst has suggested the clients move their domain to be hosted thus relocating their email. He asked me to: -move exchange server to POP3 and -disconnect fixed IP and create dynamic IP Is this not the thing to do? Thanks Gav
