Exchange - Fully Qualified Domain Name and Configure DNS servers
Hello, In Exchange System Manager I am a bit confused on the following two SMTP Connector settings: 1. Fully Qualified Domain Name 2. Configure DNS servers For the FQDN I put out external mail/mx record domain name - Example: Our external DNS MX record is mail.company.com and that IP/DNS name literally goes to our home office where our Exchange server is at. So in Exchange I have put for the FQDN mail.company.com but the actual server name is called Exchange. Is this correct? Configure DNS - Why would you want to configure DNS manually here? Doesn't exchange simply get the DNS info from the DNS Server? Thanks!

If you are referring to the delivery tab on the SMTP VS in Exchange 2003, then the FQDN is the external , resolvable name of the sending server. You should click the Check DNS button as well there. The External DNS servers menu whould be left emtpy, yes. There is typically no reason to enter anything there. In fact, performance can suffer if you do. If you are referring to something else, let us know.

Thanks Andy. I did enter the mail.company.com as the FQDN name in the SMTP delivery tab and not the server name or just the domain company.com. We haven't had any problems but I wasn't really able to find any info on those two settings. Appreciate the help!
