Exchange 'slowness' for users
Hi Running Exchange 2007 SP2 with Outlook 2007 SP2 clients. This morning, a whole bunch of users on mbx1.domain.com said they were experiencing slow performance on their Outlook. Same with OWA. We ran test-mapiconnectivity which showed all stores were ok. This seems to happen intermittently, but I'm not sure what other troubleshooting steps to take, can anyone recommend? Nothing in Event Log.

Any other processes happening at the same time like a backup or AV scheduled scanning?Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Hi No, no other processes happening and no other apps running on their desktops are affected either, just Outlook. Any ideas on troubleshooting steps to run on both Exch server and client to identify the source of the issue or, at least, rule Exchange out?

When I was asking about processes running, I was talking about on the Exchange server. Since the behavior is the same if on Outlook or OWA in the same timeframe, this seems to be on the server side. Are any backups running on Exchange during this time? Any other backups running in the environment that might be sharing the same switch fabric? Is Exchange sharing strorage (ex. SAN) with any other servers? If so, any processes running on those servers (like a SQL job, etc)? Have you excluded the proper AV exclusions: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332342(EXCHG.80).aspx Can you run an ExBPA report and post any errors or warnings?Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington
