Exchange2010/Outlook 2010 text message sync - can this be turned off at a policy level?
It is possible to turn off this feature in the activesync policy on the phone itself, but can this be disabled at a policy level so that any Windows Mobile 6.5 devices cannot sync text messages to the Exchange server or send text messages from Outlook 2010? We have removed the text message feature from OWA using the set-owavirtualdirectory command, but cannot see a way of removing this feature completely from activesync. Is this not possible for Windows Mobile devices synching with Outlook 2010?

“Allow text messaging: This setting specifies whether text messaging is allowed from the mobile phone. This policy setting requires an Exchange Enterprise Client Access License” --------Refer to <Understanding Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies>Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi James. Setting that setting will disable the text message function from the device which is not what we are after. People still need to be able to send text messages from their phones, but the part that pulls texts from phones into inboxes and allows people to send text messages from within Outlook itself needs to be disabled. Any ideas?

Same issue here, anyone know how to turn off just the SMS sync feature from activesync? We don't even want the option to come up on the phone during activesync config.

Hey everyone, I had the same issue. I figured it out. Go in your mobile phone's exchange server settings and disable the "sms sync" feature. That worked for my Android. Gus

Microsoft needs to come up with a solution to do it at the Exch Server level! I manage 350 users and about 300 cell phones of all forms and sorts, and we are a 2-man IT shop and not very sophisticated users. This has created a lot of headache for us, the users, and the company! Should I have known about the potential disaster that it creates, in terms of my Exch Server getting an increased load of over 3000 SMS a day, the liability of confidentiality infringement, ....., I would have included that in my instructions posted on our Intranet!

Just got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and synced to my work outlook (but is a personal phone), now I'm receiving all of my text messages on my work email. I have, as Gus suggested, gone to my phones exchange server settings, but there is no option on this phone to disable the 'sms sync'. Any ideas on how I can disable this without this setting?!
