Exch 2k7 crashed on Exch2k3 org!
Hi guys a customer asked us to help with problems with their new server; the environment was only provided by one server: BDSERVER = IP 192.168.0.1, DC for XXX.LOCAL, DNS, DHCP, WINS and EXCH2K3 SPK2. The IT man tried to install the new server with W2k8 and then Exch2k7, after detect that that configuration would be problematic in backup subject (since the W2k8 doesn´t have Backup Software with granular technology like NTBACKUP from previous version) he just chose REINSTALL the new server with w2k3!!! Using NTDSUTIL METADATA CLEANUP and related commands we removed information about the old server; when open ESM (Exch2k3) it´s possible to see another Administrative Group with the crashed server, even trying the Pop-menu/Task/Remove Server, it cannot remove that server!! We found some articles on the web saying to reinstal the server from the scratch and then use 'setup/recovery' option, but we dont have anymore the AD computer account and the new S.O for the new server (now reinstalled with w2k3) uses the same IP/Name!!! I´m not able to use recovery procedure! There is a way to remove (manually) the garbage from AD, like ADSIEdit??? We also tryed to install a third server with W2k3 64 + Exch2k7 64 (with the 3 main roles), but when we try to configure URL for webservices it returns a error about "CRASHED_SERVER_NAME, like: Set-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory : The operation could not be performed because object 'myserver exchange' could not be found on domain controller 'DC.domain.LOCAL'. When we try to open the Exch2k7 Console on the third server, we face some errors like: -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- The following error(s) were reported while loading topology information: Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory Failed Error: The task was not able to connect to IIS on the server 'FILESERVER.rfs.local'. Ensure that the server exists and is reachable from this computer: The RPC server is unavailable. Get-OabVirtualDirectory Failed Error: The task was not able to connect to IIS on the server 'FILESERVER.rfs.local'. Ensure that the server exists and is reachable from this computer: The RPC server is unavailable. Get-OWAVirtualDirectory Failed Error: The task was not able to connect to IIS on the server 'FILESERVER.rfs.local'. Ensure that the server exists and is reachable from this computer: The RPC server is unavailable. >>>>>>>>> Does anyone ideia how to fix it removing the last exch2k7 from AD or change AD to remove garbages wich point to crashed server???? Tks, Renato P

Hi : Jameschong’s saying will be benefit to you. ADSIEDIT to delete the server object. Note that this is not supported as it only deletes the server context and is not a clean graceful removal as doing an uninstall. There is no KB article to manually delete as there was for 2000\2003. The proper way would be to recover the system then uninstall using the \recoverserverswitch. Recovering an Exchange 2007 Server using the RecoverServer switch http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Recovering-Exchange-2007-Server-RecoverServe r-switch.html "The manual removal of Exchange 2007 is not supported" How to remove Exchange 2007 from a computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927464 However; if you want to remove the server object from AD delete the server object. 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Support Tools, point to Tools, and then click ADSI Edit. 2. Expand each of the following items: Configuration Container CN=Configuration, DC=Domain_Name,DC=com CN=Services CN=Microsoft Exchange CN=Your_Organization_Name CN=Administrative Groups CN=Your_Administrative_Group_Name_ CN=Servers CN=<Server Name>. Delete the server object. Remove the Exchange server’s machine account from Security groups Exchange Servers and Exchange Install Domain Servers.
