Exch 2010 install failure on e-mail address policy object
I get the following during installation of the CAS in an environment with an Exch 2003 server running: Organization Preparation Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); Write-ExchangeSetupLog -info "Set the default Accepted domain from the default recipient policy"; $defaultEmailAddressPolicy = get-EmailAddressPolicy -Identity:"Default Policy"; $defaultSmtpTemplate = $defaultEmailAddressPolicy.EnabledPrimarySMTPAddressTemplate; $index = $defaultSmtpTemplate.IndexOf("@"); $eapAuthoritativeDomain = $defaultSmtpTemplate.Substring($index+1); $defaultDomain = get-accepteddomain | where {$_.DomainName -eq $eapAuthoritativeDomain }; $defaultDomain | set-accepteddomain -MakeDefault:$true; Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info "Default domain $defaultDomain";"was run: "The e-mail address policy object must have exactly one primary e-mail address with the prefix "X400". Property Name: ". I looked in the Exchange System Manager on the 2003 server and noticed under Recipients->Recipient Policies->Default Policy that in teh E-Mail Addreses (Policy) tab there were two X400 Type addresses which could not be removed. So I tried following the advice on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/49f00359-8b44-407e-b672-dc58204e941e/ at the bottom of the page. I used ADSIedit to remove a duplicate X400 entry that showed up in Configuration [DC Machinename]- CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local - CN=Services - CN=Microsoft Exchange - Organization name (could be "CN=First Organization") - CN=Recipient Policies double clicked on the CN=Default Policy and went to the following entry: disabledGatewayProxy, removed the X400 entry there. I rebooted the Exch2003 server and the new Exch2010 server and tried to run the install again to no avail. Please help.

Hi, As you said that you have cleared the entry than rebooted the exchange servers but I think ADSIEdit is a part of AD not Exchange so reboot your AD and I hope you will get done. Regards. Hi, If you've got multiple DC's you might have to wait a while before replication has occured. Besides this are there strange characters in your e-mail address policies? Regards, JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

I rebooted all the DC's to no avail. I'm not sure how to tell if there are strange characters in the policies. Any other advice?

Hi eaislinn, Could you please screenshot the default policy email address policy tab and post here? I have run into a issue looked same as yours, it caused that NS was in the Default Address Policy with a NULL value, so please confirm the email address policy correctly configured. How to do the deployment in exchange 2003 scenario, you could refer to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exdeploy2010/default(EXCHG.140).aspx Regards! Gavin

Thanks for the reply Gavin. I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I don't see a way to add images to my post so I may include a screenshot. On my E-Mail Addresses (Policy) tab there are two Generation rules: SMTP %g.%s@mbpp.org X400 X400:c=US;a=mbpp.org;p=Mt Baker Family ;o=Exchange; I'll check out the link you posted. Best, Eric

Hi Eric, Per your information, is your organization's name is Mt Baker Family ? Please change the X400 as below, and then make a test. X400 c=US;a= ;p=Mt Baker Family;o=Exchange; Regards! Gavin

Our organization's name used to be Mt Baker Family Medicine, now its Mt Baker Planned Parenthood. Our TLD is mbpp.org

Gavin, When I remove the mbpp.org from the Administrative management domain name (a): input area on the X400 Address Properties I get an error: Exchange System Manager ADMD (administratove management domain) is a required field for the X.400 address. In the ADMD (ad) box, type a domain for teh X.400 site.

Hi eaislinn, I want to verify, the "X400:c=US;a=mbpp.org;p=Mt Baker Family ;o=Exchange;" is the default configuration, or that you maually configured? change it as below, and then make a test. as normal, the values: a=DomainName;p=OrgnizationName It is strange, set a=mbpp and then make test. Regards! Gavin

Gavin, Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not help. The error says "the e-mail address policy object must have exactly one primary e-mail address with the prefix 'X400'. Property Name:" This makes me wonder if there is some other policy in the AD that I can't see that's creating the problem. Is there a way to search the AD to see if there's another entry like that? Best, Eric

Hi Eric, You could check the the email address policy through the ADSIEDIT. The path tree is: configuration -> cn=configuration, Dc=xxx,dc=com,-> cn=services -> cn=domainname -> cn=recipient policy Check the result. Regards! Gavin

Turns out after paying for MS support that there was an X.400 entry in the Journal Cleanup area of the Recipient Policies. VERY frustrating. Thanks to all those who tried to help.
