Exch 2007 corrupted AD record
OK, so we have a 2007 CA / HT server that was running fine. A new server was added to the domain with a name that apparently caused a Netbios or some other corruption or conflict. So now exchange services are not starting. The original server at least on the server itself still shows that it is a member of the domain and looks fine except that it is now acting as a now domain server where a domain account will not log in. Is there a way without ruining the Exchange load to somehow either recover the old server record for AD or rejoin the server to the domain? Again main thing being to not destroy the current Exchange setup!! Thanks!

There is nothing that you can do that will guarantee that the existing Exchange system will not have a problem when it comes to repairing AD issues. There are various things that can be done to get the server back on the domain, but considering how closely integrated Exchange is with the domain, these may still cause an issue. The server that has a problem - is it a mailbox server? If not, then I would probably look at building a fresh server, with a fresh name and installing Exchange with the required roles on to it. Once done, remove the server that is playing up. You may have to login locally to run add/remove programs to remove it. Whether it will come out cleanly is a different matter. Once you have a replacement in place though, it becomes a little easier to try things out to get it removed. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources
