Exch 2007 Messaging Records Management - Emails not being removed
We have several service accounts that are not being actively maintained and last Friday, I did some research and set up a MRM policy for those service accounts to automatically permanently remove any email messages in the Inbox and Deleted Items, older than 90 days. Today, I did an audit and the policy did not work.I double checked the settings:Organization > Mailbox > Managed Folder Mailbox Policies > 90 Day Limitiation: Applied to Deleted Items and InboxOrganization > Mailbox > Managed Default Folders > Deleted Items > Permanently Delete (Managed Content Settings):Message Type: All Mailbox ContentLength of Retention (days): 90Retention period starts: When DeliveredAction to take: Permanently DeleteIt's the same thing for the Inbox > Permanently Delete (Managed Content Settings)I checked to make sure that the specific mailboxes has the MRM policy associated with it.I have the Schedule Assistant running every morning at 5 am; event logs confirmed that it started at 5 am and completed with no errors, all mailboxes processed.I attempted to do a manual schedule assistant for a particular mailbox, no errors but the mailbox is not adhering to the policy. (IE: There's email messages starting from May 8th, 2009.)Is it not working because the messages don't have a timestamp to identify that it needs to be removed?

Off the top of my head it looks ok. Did you setup a log file? It might help diagnose the problem.use the cmdlet to enable the logging.

Hi,
I suggest you read following article to know how Retention Periods Are Calculated for Items in Managed Folders
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430780.aspx
Note: You can use MFCMapi tool to check following three properties of the message:
- PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME
- PR_CLIENT_SUBMIT_TIME
- PR_LAST_MODIFICATION_TIME
In addition, I would like to explain that you can run Start-ManagedFolderAssistant to force Messaging Records Management (MRM) processing of mailboxes on the servers:
