Excel file doesn't open. Processor on 100%

Hello,

I have an Excel file which is 600kb big and when I want to open it via double click or open it as a recent file in Excel, it stops always at a certain point. When I open it via double click the Excelprocessor goes to 100% as well as the CPU.

I tried to make a profile reset, repair of the office package. Tried to copy it locally (cuz the file sits on a sharedrive). Nothing helped.

The other colleagues have no problem with opening the file. When I sit on a different PC I have the same problem, but if a colleague sits on my previous PC he doesn't have problems.

Do you guys have any idea what I can do to get this crazy Excel file to open?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Did your three computer have the same Computer Hardware? The same Cpus or others? It seems a weird issue, and I suppose that some programs conflict.

I recommend you do the following steps to check the issue:

First,Start the Excel program in safe mode

Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office.
Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Microsoft Excel.
If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, this issue might be related to some third-party add-ins in the Excel program, we can try to disable them.
Normally, you could do the following to disable the conflict add-ins in your Excel program:
Disable add-ins.

Secondly, we may choose one Cpu core to test.

open Task manager>Selcet Excel.exe>Right-click>Choose>Set affinity>Choose one Cpu.

Thirdly, we should Pull away from Internet and open the file in Windows clean boot. For more detail information, please refer to the following link:

Hi George,

thank you for your reply. These PCs are cooperate PCs with all the same Hardware. Win7 64bit with Office 2010 32bit.

I tried to start Excel in Safe mode as you suggested and the Excel file hangs itself at a certain calculation point. It says "calculating database set 606 of 5867". It alawys stopps there. If I wait like 15 min the Excel file opens and I can work in it, but as soon as I try to save it hangs itself again.

To disable Add-Ins in Excel 2010 is very weird, but i managed somehow according to Microsoft Office site.

I also tried to choose just one CPU, with the same result. (thx btw for this otion, never heard of it before)

Your third option is not possible, because the file sits on a shared drive. So to start windows in Clean Boot is not possible. (again cooperate PCs have just a certain possibility, even though I am Admin of the PC).

I really hope you can come up with something else and thanks again.

Cheers,

Haraldinho

"calculating database set 606 of 5867" is not an Excel message - so it must be coming from code in an addin or from some VBA code in the workbook you are opening.

You need to find out why this code has a problem with database set 606

Hi Charles,

thanks for your reply. How can I find out the code when the database is not opening or if it is open how to find the code. Sorry but I am not an Excel specialist : (

Thanks in advance for your help.
