Excel data import to create a Visio brainstorming diagram

Need to create a Visio brainstorming diagram from excel data.

I do not want to link data to a brainstorming diagram.

I only want to create an initial "blank" Visio brainstorming diagram from an excel sheet.

When I use the Brainstorming pull-down menu to export data from an existing Brainstorming diagram, both the word and excel export features are disabled.  Only the XML export feature is available.  It sure would  be nice to know why these are disabled and/or how to enable them.

In addition, no matter what I do to try to import data from excel, all I get is the error message, "Brainstorming:  Unable to import file.  Import file does not contain a valid schema".  And when searching the web I can find nothing about a "valid schema" definition so that I can create one to use to format an excel import to create a Visio Brainstorming diagram.

Of course there is an org chart wizard I could use.  The problem with it is that everytime you use the org chart wizard it places the org chart boxes in a completely differnt order.  I've heard that the brainstorming diagram function will put the boxes in the same place everytime a diagram is created from excel to create a Visio brainstorming diagram.  Of course I cannot find a way to do this.

I am using Visio 2007 and Excel 2010

Ideas?  Suggestions?  Education Links?

Thanks,

Don

Just to put it into perspective, Visio add-ons usually work with the current version of office (i.e. v2007 uses o2007 products, v2010 uses o2010 products) and vice-a-versa. The schemas can be deduced by looking at the raw xml export/import for those that might want to build their own solutions.

Al,

This question still stands for Visio 2013. I can export to Excel/XML, but cannot import that same exported file to a new Visio Brainstorm diagram.

Is there a non-developer method for doing this? How do I get my hands on the XSD?
