Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications

Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, i5, 8GB memory, Office 2013 64 bit

This has been occurring only on a single computer, it first started with Office 2013 32bit then I upgraded to 64 bit yet continue to get this error message "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications"

The spreadsheet isn't special, only a few rolls of data, no special formulas, just numbers. Any ideas?

This occurs regardless if the spreadsheet is empty or has data in it.

Hi,

Did this issue with a particular file or every file on the single computer? This error might be caused by some factors. Thus, please try the following methods and check they are helpful:

1)Close any non-crucial background applications after restarting.

2)Set automatic calculations to manual. By default, Excel (re-)calculates any formulas whenever a change is made. To improve Excel performance, you can set this to manual as follows: (i) Click on the Excel ribbon or on 'File' in the top-left corner (depending on your version of Excel), (ii) Select "Options", (iii) go to the "Formulas" ribbon, (iv) select "Manual" (under Calculation options), (v) select OK. To carry out any calcutions manually, go to the "Formulas" ribbon, and select "Calculate Now" (on the right-hand side of the toolbar).

3)Navigate to the registry key called PrefetchParameters.
The registry key is located in the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters.
 Set EnablePrefetcher value to 2
Set EnableSuperfetch value to 0.
Then restart your PC for the change to take effect.

I upgraded the computer to 64 bit Windows 8.1 and 64 bit Office 2013 and SSD. Problem went away.

I think it was the SSD and not using a hard drive.
