Excel Print Quality comes up blank

We've had users report issues with printouts from Excel 2013 only filling 1/4 of the page, despite the print preview looking fine. We've narrowed the issue down to the following setting:

File > Print > Page Setup > Print Quality

When our users are opening .xlsx documents from Office 2010, the Print Quality value is blank.
When opening Excel normally and creating a new blank workbook, the Print Quality value is 600dpi.
The printing will only work successfully if the value is set at 600dpi.

I've tried forcing the value to change via the print driver, but Excel seems to have a mind of its own in this regard.

For all intensive purposes, it appears to be a file-specific issue. If we change the value to 600dpi and save the file, almost every user picks up the change from the file. However, there still seem to be exceptions where users still have to do it manually.

Any ideas on how we can force this value to remain at 600dpi?

We are running Excel 2013 Pro Plus in a domain environment. The PCs which have 2013 are 64-bit machines running 32-bit Office.

Thanks.

Hi,

As far as I know, the Print Quality value is based on the default printer. If we use the different printers as default printer with multiple Excel files, they will get the different DPI value from default printer.

For example, if file A is assigned printer A (A Fax) as default printer. When you click the Print > Page Setup > Print Quality, the default value is blank. Then if file B is assigned printer B as default printer, the Print Quality is set at 600dpi.

Thus, please try the following methods and check if it is helpful.

1) Change the default printer

2) Reset the Print Quality value in printer.

Hi George,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, this hasn't resolved our issue - it still comes up blank.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Sir,

As I mentioned above, the value of "Print Quality" is related to the default printer. Please try to set "send to OneNote" as default print, and check if the value equal to 600 dpi.

If it displays correctly, I recommend we upgrade the print drive.
