Excel 2010 web query refresh errors: Is there a fix?

Regardless of the web site I access, I get repeated errors when trying to refresh the data connection. Initially excel displays the message "Contacting the server for information...." but never finishes the query. Hitting ESC produces the message "unable to open [hyperlink]. The hyperlink cannot be followed to the destination."

I know the link is good, and can manually paste it into my browser and display the data I'm trying to retrieve. I'm trying to retrieve multiple links, and the error doesn't always occcur with the same link.

I've searched and searched but can't find any fixes on any forums, including microsoft's, or any add-ins that might work around the problem. The web query tool would be GREAT if it worked; as it is, it's a major frustration. Any ideas?

This solved my issue http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/2c50dc21-3823-4087-b0d7-c1f3a239146e/refresh-all-problem-with-excel-2010-on-windows-7-sp1-pc-64-bit-vaoi-sony

I've just solved the problem. It's a difference between Excel 07/VISTA  and Excel 2010/Windows 7. On the sheets that "Refresh All" worked in Excel07/VISTA but did not work in Excel2010/Windows 7, I found if selected the Query Cell and I unchecked the box in Data/Properties (External Data Range Properties)/Refresh Control that says "Enable background refresh" the problem disappeared (The problem occurred consistently but erraticly in its detail and was manifest as "Unable to open (hypertextlink). The hypertext link cannot be followed to the destination.")
