Excahnge 2010 SP1 and SP2 Not Sending Quota Messages
Folks, I have a production Exchange 2010 SP1 UR 6 system that isn't sending out the expected mailbox quota warning messages, and our users are configured with 1.8 GB issue warning, and 2.0 GB prohibit send settings. They are not configured to use the database defaults. I've played with my own mailbox with various setting changes, always with the Issue Warning well over half of my Prohibit Send limit, and I come up with no quota limit message. I figured this might be something fixed in SP2, so I figured I'd try to figure out what was going on in our lab. In the lab, we have SP2 UR4 (which we will deploy in productuion at the end of the month). I set the QuotaNotificationSchedule so it will run every half hour. Again, my test mailbox has an issue warning limit well over half of the prohibit send limit, but I am still not getting any quota messages. I figured I'd turn up event monitoring, and I do see the MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store event 1077 - "The following users on database "TestDatabase" have exceeded the Issue Warning storage limit" - but I still am not seeing the message in my mailbox. I think I've checked everything I can check in this area, but can't find anything that is broken. Has anyone had this same experience, and if so, have you found a resolution? Thanks ... Will Martin

I'll start with the quota notification schedule. It's set to run every half hour from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Each run is set for 15 minutes. I had also tried a schedule of "Sun.1:00-Sat.23:00" with the same results. Just before noon, I configured the two servers in the DAG with the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem\CheckWarningQuota setting, and I restarted the IS on each. My mailbox in test is set to the following: UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults : False IssueWarningQuota : 2 MB (2,097,152 bytes) ProhibitSendQuota : 3.5 MB (3,670,016 bytes) ProhibitSendReceiveQuota : 15 GB (16,106,127,360 bytes) It is now at the following size, etc: TotalItemSize : 2.011 MB (2,108,574 bytes) TotalDeletedItemSize : 1.456 MB (1,526,806 bytes) StorageLimitStatus : IssueWarning It's been running this way for seven hours now. I have moved, sent, copied and read mail in the mailbox throughout the day. At just before 3:30 today (it's now 4:20), I set the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeIS\Diagnostics\9000 Private\9021 Storage Limits counter to Expert (7), and I see two 1077 events. But still no quota mail sent to the mailbox. Any ideas where else I can check/test? Will Martin

Did you read the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2608646 Did you make the registry modificatiron? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2480474 --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Rich, if you'd read my second posting, you'd have seen that I applied the registry modification you sent the URL for. And my first posting told you I am running Ex2010 SP1 UR6. Any other thoughts?

Hi Willard, Did you also check it in OWA? Neither Outlook 2010 online nor cached mode cannot receive quota message? On a whim, I figured I'd test with Outlook 2010 to see if any ibnformation was displayed in the new client. Nope, nothing. So, to recap, in our test environment (a separate forest from our production systems), I've made all registry modifications on the servers that are supposed to force them to deliver quota notification messages, and restarted the information store on them. However, while I can see the event log entry saying that the server found the mailbox that is over its limit, no over-quota message is ever delivered to the mailbox. I've got to be missing something, but I can't find it. Any other thoughts?

Oh, and in case anyone is curious, the deferred message issue was caused by ForeFront - it wasn't getting updated in our test environment, so it blocked any email from being sent.

A quick look at the KB article and your post made it LOOK like you hadn't. The KB refers to the entire HKLM name but then shortens CurrentControlSet to CCS. >And my first posting told you I am running Ex2010 SP1 UR6. Any other thoughts? Not right now.
