Looks like your Backup Window and online maintenance time frame are Overlapping with each other. You need to configure your online maintenance other than your backup window Follow the below article to change the timings Exchange 2007 Online Maintenance Database Scanning (Part 1) http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2007/monitoring-operations/exchange-online-database-scanning-part1.html Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

It is really not necessary until something is interfering with its schedule. also make sure AV scanning is not bothering the online maintenance Online Maintenance is part and parcel of maintaining a healthy database for your Exchange environment. In addition to performing online defragmentation, online maintenance performs other essential tasks such as permanently removing deleted items. For more information on what happens during online maintenance, check out JeremyK's weblog here: http://blogs.msdn.com/jeremyk/archive/2004/06/12/154283.aspx Because the online maintenance duration is directly proportional to the size of an Exchange database, it is entirely possible that defragmentation of a database cannot complete within a single day and may take several passes to complete. Look out for the event 703 for online defragmentation completed. With the above points in mind, you should run maintenance on each database every night. What you should be sensitive to are the following factors: 1. Server activity and peak hours - online maintenance during periods of high utilization will result in resource contention and overall degradation of end-user experience. 2. Backup durations - never schedule maintenance during a backup operation. In Exchange Server 2007, MS recommends using incremental backups in conjunction with high availability solutions such as continuous replication, which greatly reduces backup durations.Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Set the maintenance schedule to run from 01:00 to 04:45 for thatdatabase (or 00:45 to 04:45 if you really need four hours).Alternatively, start your backup at 05:01 instead of 05:00.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Rich, Thanks for Help For Database maintenance setup option i can see in DB right click properties their i can see the window to schedule , is that the only setup or i need to do some moreprocess for online db maintenance, we are at starting stage we migrated only few users , can you pleasetell me how long does the maintenance requires and which time is better to schedule the maintenance our Exchange complete DB backup takes max 20min and Backup completes before 8pm, and they have never interfered with the 1am - 5am maintenance window we have currently. and aim not able to do the maintenance set up exact till 04:45 , aim able to do till 4 or 5 Please tell me the process how to schedule the maintenance window and how long it requires will be make sure that no backups are running on that time .

It depends upon the size of database. it is always better to configure when server is idle such as off hours and also when backup is not running. I'd guess that that you're probably running, in thatfour-hour window, 16 complete compaction passes. You could probablyjust run the maintenance task between 01:00 and 01:30 for now.As your database grows the time to complete an entire compaction passwill grow. You can adjust your schedule accordingly to accomodate thatgrowth. While the online compaction is an important operation, it isn'tnecessary that it completes every day. If it finishes a pass everybly good enough. If the database grows solarge that you can't complete a pass in less than several days, consider scheduling the maintenance task to run for a longer period onnon-work days (e.g. from 12:00 to 19:45 and 01:00 to 04:45 on Saturdayand Sunday).>Please tell me the process how to schedule the maintenance window and how long it requires will be make sure that no backups are running on that time . ---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

That looks a bit strange, why first database is running Defrag about 24 hours and third is running 72 hours. I believe there are some overlaps. If I understood correctly. If not, then could you send output for the cmd-let: Get-MailboxDatabase -server <type your server name> | fl Identity, maintenanceschedule -- Petri

On the management shell try at first: Get-MailboxDatabase -server <type your server name> e.g. Get-MailboxDatabase -server excsrv1 You should get your databases. Then try the whole command: Get-MailboxDatabase -server <type your server name> | fl Identity, maintenanceschedule e.g. Get-MailboxDatabase -server excsrv1 | fl Identity, maintenanceschedule "|" is the "pipe", like you can do: dir /s | more -- Petri

Hey, I think the answer to you issue is this thread . It make sense that it can be safely ignored because sometime even when your maintenance window is closed, some process might still be running. e.g. your online defragmentation So this warning is logged.
