Event ID 1002 when trying to install new E2K10 server. Fails at MBX Role
I'm trying to install the first E2K10 server (Currently using E2K3) and the CAS/HUB roles install but I get this error when it tries the MBX role. I'm installing from my local hard drive and not through the network. I'm using the SP2 install (previously tried SP1 install) but both come up with the same error: Summary: 3 item(s). 1 succeeded, 1 failed. Have you tried opening a command window as administrator and running "Setup.com /Mode:install /Roles:CA,HT,MB" ?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

I have not. I have been using the setup.exe GUI. I will give the command above a try. Since i already have the CA and HT roles installed should i just do MB?

Hi, Copy the script CheckDatabaseRedundancy.ps1 from the installation Media (SP2\scripts) to the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts\ and try the installation again.Martina Miskovic - http://www.nic2012.com/

I checked and the script is there. Its strange that its trying to find it via the c$ on the server. like its trying to go through the network. but im doing it from my hard drive.

Just googled it and it seems that others have had the same issue and the problem has been resolved by adding File & Printer Sharing to the NIC. Others just hadn't started the installation with administrative privilages as mentioned by Ed. Did you run setup.com /Mode:install /Roles:MBMartina Miskovic - http://www.nic2012.com/

That was the first thing i checked. it was already enabled but i unchecked it, applied it, then checked it back on. i also took off the built in firewall, removed my antivirus. i right click the setup.exe and run as administrator but i get the same error. same thing when i did it with the command line, setup.com /Mode:Install /Roles:MB

i somewhat solved the issue. i told the installer to install on my D drive where the D$ is accessible. I guess windows 2008R2 (even though its shared) doesnt allow access to c$?

Hi Maybe it is your account permission problem or folder security problem.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

If i do a net share i dont see c$. however, if i go to advanced sharing on the c drive and try to create it, it tells me it already exists.

Hi, Did you resolve your problem? On what drive (C: or D:) did you install HUB and CAS? I find it very strange that you were able to install MBX on D: when the other roles were on installed on C: or am I missing something here? Martina Miskovic - http://www.nic2012.com/

I had to reinstall on the D drive (all roles). For some reason the setup tries to go across the network to itself on c$ to access a couple scripts. no matter what i do i cant access c$ (even as the administrator). So i tried reinstalling on the D drive where the d$ was accessible. If i do a net share i dont see c$. however, if i go to advanced sharing on the c drive and try to create it, it tells me it already exists

OK, so you problem is resolved now? I can't answer why you're not able to see C$ when you run net share. Mayby you have some GPO that restricts that or something.Martina Miskovic - http://www.nic2012.com/
