EventId 9646 for Blackberry Admin account that has View Information Store Status rights - Exchange 2003
I've started moving Exchange 2003 users from a BES4 server to a BES5 server.
However after moving the first batch of 16 I got a 9646 error showing up in the log - Mapi session BESAdmin exceeded the maximum of 332 objects of type "session"
Those 16 all seem to work ok however although the error is still showing up in log regularly. But when i did the next batch I got a BES error message to the effect that the Information Store could not be opened. All users on same server, some in same databases.
I'm confused because the service account (different one for BES5 than BES4) has View Information Store Status rights which is supposed to negate the session limit.
Any thoughts?
Neill

I had looked at the KB but was negated by already having given the service account the View Information Store Status rights.
IS hasn't been restarted since before I moved the users between the BES but it has been restarted since the BES account was given those rights. Does that make sense?
I think it is scheduled for a failover this weekend as part of our normal processes.

Hi Neill,
The issue is caused by BlackBerry client open many MAPI sessions to the Exchange Server. I would suggest you contact BlackBerry support or write the post in BlackBerry
forum for further help.
Thanks,
Elvis

I am in contact with Blackberry support.
However it doesn't explain why the 9646 error would be logged when the service account has the Administer Information Store and View Information Store Status permissions.
I'll get the IS restarted at the weekend and see if it makes any difference.

If you did the mailbox movement in the last few hours, then restart the BB service or run handheldcleanup utility.
Also, I would suggest to run IEMSTest.exe (Blackberry Installation Directory\Bin) and select the user from GAL to see the corresponding permission what is visible for BES 5.
It may be a replication issue.
Good Luck

Cheers Shaba,
Although it was an inter-version transport rather than a mailbox move, i.e. BES4->BES5 rather than EX2003->EX2010.

I'm still having problems with this.
If I restart BES then I can't get the users to start properly until I also fail over the cluster.
Can ANYONE think why a service account that has the View Information Store Status right set on all the databases (and store has been restarted) would still be logging 9646 too many MAPI sessions in the event log.
As far as I can tell this is NOT a Blackberry issue but an Exchange issue.
Thanks

Hi Neill,
I have same issue. I contacted with Microsoft and RIM, but I couldn't find solution, yet.
Could you please give information about your solution?
Thanks.

Hi Yalcin,
I never got a solution I'm afraid.
I just migrated the users to BES5 as I migrated their exchange mailboxes to EX2010.
