Error while backing up exchange databases.
Whenever i'm trying to backup mails the following error comes up "AE9708 <Date> <Time> Check Integrity failed.Check the exchange server status. There are 3 types of mailboxes we are backing up, the management, Exstaff and Normal user. This error comes up on Normal User. The rest are backed up fine.

Hi Pradeep, Which backup agent you are using is it NTBACKUP ??. backup is getting failed at "Intigrity Check" so there could be issue of Databse intgrity also with backup agent. Did you have time to dismount databse and run /eseutil (eseutil /k "c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata\pub1.edb") http://www.petri.co.il/check_exchange_2000_2003_server_databases_integrity.htm Anil

Hi I'm using CA ArcServe. Ok the thing is i'm new to administration as i'm primarily an ERP guy but trying to get on to administration so i won't be too technical in my explanation (Please bear with me). The databases which are getting backed up are as follows ; Folder->Exstaff E:\Exstaff_exchange_database\exstaff_mailbox_database.edb Folder->Management_mailbox E:\Management_Exchange_Database\Mgmt_Mailboxes.edb Folder->Production_Normal Mailstore F:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb Public Folder E:\Public_Folder_database\Art Public Folder.edb Now when i view the folders Exstaff and Management_mailbox, they are highlighted in blue and have attribute C, which i think means they are compressed. And these two folders are backing up fine. No issues. It is only with Production_Normal that i'm getting this error message. Also all these databases show as mounted.

Hi Pradeep, As per my knowledge any folder containing edb file should not be cpmpressed and it should be default. In Arc backup why you are selecting folders , you should select store (F:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb) for taking backup. Alternatively you can create new databse for normal users and move some mailbox into it and take backup, once it sucesfull then you can move mailbof from problem store into this. As you are not well familiar with exchange so i will not recommend you to do some more troubleshooting which may cause your production down. If you have any question please post here.Anil

Pradeep are you running Exchange aware CA backup . Is there an exchaneg agent installed and you are not taking a file level backup

Dont do mailbox backups. They arent needed. Instead do a full information store backup and see if that works.

I agree with Andy, Mailbox/Brick Level backups are problematic at best and therefore should be avoided. Use CA to get the Full Information Store/Database backups operating first and then look at Microsoft Recovery Storage Groups or third party products like Kroll PC, Quest RM or Lucid8's DigiScope to do mailbox and granular item recoveriesTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
