Error out of memeory starting storage group Even ID 9518
Hi, Last couple of weeks my Exchange 2003 SP2Std backend server page file utilization is very high and it reaches to approximatly more than 9G B (Store.exe consumes more PF usage). Studdenly my Information store got dismonted and If I try to start I receivedEvent error "9518Error out of memory starting Storage Group" Once I restart the server I was able to mount the store and page file usage is settle down to 4 to 5GB. I have already added the 3GB switch in the boot.ini file. within another couple of days or short, again Page file usage comes to 9GB. CPU usage is less than 5% and there won't be no noticeable performance degrade in the server. I ran the HP memory dianostic, it not indicate any memory issues. This server hosting more than 450 mailboxeswith database size of 28GB. Running Windows server 2003 stdwith SP1 and physical memory of 2GB. Please help me to overcome this.. Cheers, AFRAZ

Hitting VM issues like this is not a hardware problem, but a software problem. I have never heard of an Exchange server whose page file hits 9GB. The best place to start is to get your software up-to-date. 1) Make a complete backup of your data and document your server configuration 2) Apply Windows 2003 SP2 3) Apply Exchange 2003 SP2 4) Run Windows Update and make sure that you are using the "Microsoft Update" client. If not, install the Microsoft Update client and install all of the critical updates.

Hi, Jim Thnx for your reply. I already have Ex 2003 SP2 applied. I ran the Exchange Best Practice Analyzer; in the error report I have found HeapDeCommitFreeBlockThreshold" value not properly set in the registry to reduce the virtual memory fragmentation. I have set the value as recommended by the Exchange analyzer to 0x00040000 in hexadecimal. I also found the related MS KB artikcle at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325044 Now my server only utilize the PF less than 1.5GB and no sudden database dismount at all. Cheers, AFRAZ
