When I open a Word document from OneDrive, I am encountering the following error message, can someone please help me fix this?

Did this issue appear all Word documents? Have you ever tried to open Excel files from OneDrive, did Excel files work fine?

Based on the error message, you can use Windows Explorer to access the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15 folder and right click on WINWORD.EXE then on Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and uncheck all the boxes.

You can check the "ddeexec" registry key at:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open

Then please delete the "ddeexec" key, you can also be deleted from:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open

The "Word.Document.12" values are from Word 2007. It is likely that the "ddeexec"  fix that is described here will work for Word 2007, Word 2010 and Word 2013.

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
