Are you trying to install it on a server that already has or had Exchange 2003 installed?

I got exactly the same error message and it says nothing about how to get the newer version of that object.I had Exchange 2003 before but I removed it before the installation of 2007.

If you have or would like tocompletely remove Exchange 2003 from the domain and want to reinstall Exchange 2007 you might want to run setup.exe /removeorg from the Exchange 2003 CD. This will completely remove the old Exchange 2003 organization. More information about removing Exchange from acan be found here http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Remove-Exchange-server-entire-Exchange-organization.html If are not starting from scratch and you don't see the old server name in ESM (if it is in ESM you should just be able toright-click and remove it)you should open up ADSI edit and go to: Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange/[Your Exchange Org]"/First Administrative Group/Servers and then locate that server and delete it.

Running the "setup.exe /removeorg" from the Exchange2003 CD gives the following error:"Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the component "Microsoft Exchange": 0XC0070842 (2114): The server service is not started." I checked under the services and there is no Microsoft Exchange service to start... In the ADSIEDIT mmc, there is no Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange. I just wanted a server that can handle external e-mails also. Exchange 2003 can't do that (no sending from external SMTP in Outlook or in OWA) and seems like 2007 can't even be installed. Now it seems like I have both the leftover 2003 and portion of 2007 is on my server. How can I get rid of all the exchanges and I rather give a try to Lotus Domino. Thanks!

I ran across an error similar to this in a coexisting environment of Exchange 2003 and 2007. It only happened when a user was created or moved using the Exchange 2003 management tools on a computer. It can be identified as a problem for a user that shows as a "Legacy Mailbox" on an Exchange 2007 server. There was only one way I was able to update the version number. From the exchange management shell on the Exchange 2007 management tools, typeSet-Mailbox <user alias name> -ApplyMandatoryPropertiesThis will update them to 8.0 or higher depending on your version of Exchange 2007.
