Error during Exchange installation
Hi all, We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 and we are encountering some problems. When we try to install the mailbox role on the server the installation is failing with the error A Setup failure previously occurred while installing the Mailbox role. Either run Setup again for just this role, or remove the role using Control Panel. Click here for help... http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30939&l=en&v=ExBPA.14&id=d75e184d-b94b-4c07-b43a-ac5b9f0c4789 We went on the link suggested and we are trying to follow the steps but we are failing at step 2, we don't get any option to select. Any idea how we can solve this? We are stuck at the moment and cannot continue further with the installation so any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks in advance.

More information should be available in the Exchange Server Setup Log. Try running the setup from the command line and post the full error you get here.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

In step 2, they're telling you to run: setup.com /mode:install /roles:MB You can also try uninstalling the role first: setup.com /mode:uninstall /roles:MB Like you, I don't see anything in the log that tells me why it's failing. If the above commands don't work, you might have to open a ticket with Microsoft Support. Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hello, Did you install the Exchange in recovery mode, /recoverserver? If so, please see: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123496(EXCHG.80).aspx Also check the Application log and see if there are any new clues. Thanks, Simon

Hi all, I somehow managed to install the mailbox role successfully. I still have not migrated the mailboxes but the new server did take some setting from the old one. The problem is that at the moment we are not receiving any emails although we have not problem sending. Any idea what I need to configure to enable receiving of emails?

As Sukh asked internal or exteranl so if it' for external emails then you need to modify the permission of the default receive connector there select the Anonymous users (That should be checked) Select the Default Receive connector on HUB Server that you created or it will there once you installed the exchange 2010.Under the name of the Receive connector in the action pane, click Properties to open the Properties page.Click the Permission Groups tab. Select Anonymous users.Click OK to save your changes and exit the Properties page. Or if Internal then please let us know what error are you getting and it's what way from Exchange 2003 users whose mailbox is on 2003 users to Exchange 2010 users or on the same exchange 2010 box users ? Thanks
