A problem occurs in opening the ppt with multiple graphs once it is saved. Whenever I try to open that ppt or mail it to somebody and that person opens it, it asks to repair the ppt. If "cancel" is selected then the ppt does not open and if "repair" is selected then it repairs the file in which it places a red cross on majority of the slides and the slides appear blank.
Hi,
Based on your description, Ive got a basic idea of the issue, but I will need to isolate some matters first:
- Are you using PowerPoint 2013 or other version?
- Does this issue happen to all PowerPoint files if there are multiple graphs? What was the file format, .PPTX or .PPT?
- Were those graphics you added to your slide linked image or in share location?
Before, troubleshooting, please make a copy of your original file.
- Generally if the graphics are linked images, it might be because the link is broken. Check if the graphics are where it supposed to be.
- If its in a shared location, try to add the shared location in trust location, see if it solve the issue.
- If its on local computer, we could try steps below:
a.Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration: file -> option -> advance -> display -> check the disable box b. Start PowerPoint with safe mode: start -> run -> powerpnt /safe
Let me know the result, thank you.
HiYes i am using powerpoint 2013. This issue happen in only some of the files. File format is .pptx I have added graph from my laptop itself. when i am trying to open that file in office 2007 it is opening fine there and i am also able to save the file.
And this same problem is coming in few users. Even if they make a new file the same error is coming with the powerpoint 2013.
Hi,
Sorry for the late response. Do you mind to send me a copy of one of your .pptx file, so i can take a look from my side.
Please mail the file to:ibsofc@microsoft.com ( keep the thread url or tittle as the subject of the mail). Thank you.

Hi Neeraj,
I received your file and tested from my side, the issue can be reproduced. And the weird thing is: I open the file -> click repair -> Red X appears -> wait a while, the slide appears normal.
From the symptoms, looks like the index between the thumbnail and slides has been broken, but Im not entirely sure about that.
Do you have any third party add-in installed in your system? To Isolated this:
- Please try a clean boot
- Then start PowerPoint with safe mode and manually disable all the add-ins
- Create the PPTX file you sent to me, see if it still the same.
Meanwhile, I tested from myside several time, we can use workaround below:
- Back up your .pptx file first before open it
- Open your .pptx file -> click repair
- Select all the slides(thumbnails) from navigation on the left
- Pasted it to a brand new blank .pptx file
- Save it, it should be working as I tested from my side
Let me know the result, thank you.
