Error about incorrect sidType/domainSid when installing MS Exchange 2007 Management Tools on Windows XP.
Hi, I am still working on making Loadgen to run on WinXP (SP2 or SP3, tried both), which is joined to the DC (main-vcs102.leonexchg3vlab1.local). While installing Exchange 2007 SP1 Management Tools role, now I am getting the following Microsoft Exchange error message: "The parameter is incorrect. Parameter name: sidType/domainSid," The symptoms are exactly like in a previous post: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?siteid=17&PostID=3335909 But I cannot use the solution proposed there, because I have Exchg2k3 installed on the server, so I am asked either remove the previous version of Exchg or to run <setup /PrepareAD> from a different box. When I am running <setup /PrepareAD>on my XP box, I am getting the same error message as when installing the Tools role. Below I am appending an excerpt from ExchangeSetup.log and will appreciate any ideas about what is going on and what could be done. Thank you, --Leon. Hi Leon, If you have multiple domain controllers in lab then check the replication between those. It takes time if your lab is running in virtual environment. Have you prepared your AD to install Exchange 2007 Management Tools? If not then you need to prepare it first. How to Prepare Active Directory and Domains http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(EXCHG.80).aspx Since you have installed Exchange 2003 on DC you can run prepareschema and preparead on any of the other Windows 2003 SP1 member server also.

Thank you for the response, Amit. I have a super simple test configuration consisting of Win2k3 server with Exchg2k3 on it and a client running XP with SP3. I've prepared my AD by running setup /pl and /ps directly on the server using setup.exe from E2K7SP1EN32. They completed successfully, butwhen I am running /preparead on the server, it fails with the following error message: ----------------- Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Organization Checks ......................... FAILED A previous version of Exchange Server is already installed on this computer. Run Exchange 2007 Setup from a different computer or remove the previous version of Exchange Server. ---------------- When I am running /preparead on my XP box, which is joined to the domain by the way, I am getting the error about incorrect sidType/domainSid. I wish there is a buttonone can push and the problem is fixed :-), but even if there is one, I would like to know: 1. AreExchg2k7 and Exchg2k3 using different SID types? What is the difference? 2. Where is that SID stored, and how could it be viewed and changed? 3. What will/may screw up when SID is changed on DC? 4. Will MS Exchg 2k7 Management Tools work at all when there is Exchg2k3 installed on the server? --Leon.

Hello Leon, 1. AreExchg2k7 and Exchg2k3 using different SID types? What is the difference? No, it should be same. 2. Where is that SID stored, and how could it be viewed and changed? SID is unique for all objects in domain and stores in Active Directory. 3. What will/may screw up when SID is changed on DC? It depends on the object which SID has changed. 4. Will MS Exchg 2k7 Management Tools work at all when there is Exchg2k3 installed on the server? It shouldnt work on the Exchange 2003 server. Exchange 2007 can not run on Exchange 2003 server. Even I have doubt that you can run setup on Windows XP because /preparead also runs /prepareschema and /preparelegacyexchangepermissions and which require to run on Windows 2003 SP1 computer (check point 1 in the link which I gave in my previous reply) Sorun that commandon Windows 2003 SP1 machine to extend schema and toprepare AD, if you don't have any then you may need to install one.
