When I try to insert a PowerView into my Excel file I get the following message:

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

This morning I installed an upgrade for Power Query (PowerQuery_2.18.3874.242 (64-bit) [en-us].msi).

The installation was successful.

After the installation, I opened an existing Excel file, which contained several PowerView Sheets. I could not see any of the existing PowerView sheets. If I try to add a new PowerView sheet, a popup appears with the mentioned error message.

The same happens if I open a new Excel file.

PowerView was working fine with the previous PowerQuery version (PowerQuery_2.17.3850.242 (64-bit) [en-us].msi).

I don't know if there is a connection, but this is the only modification that I can recall doing.

Yesterday I opened the project again. The issue disappeared, but I did not change any settings or other things.

Is it possible that some of the Windows Updates solved it? I noticed that from that date I installed 21 updates, regarding Defender, Security, Office, Lync and Access.

You are correct. The patch for this issue was recently released.
