Entourage and Exchange 2007 - Sending attachments external results in 0kb size
Hi Guys, Maybe not the right place to start this thread but here it is! I, and I thing many other (if not all) Exchange 2007 administrators in the same situation as I am, supporting a "hybrid" network consisting of Mac's and PC's, have problems when sending attachments using Microsoft Entourage 2004. Internal email traffic is not affected. External email traffic email sent from Entourage result in receiving the mail with the attachments whichthen are0 kb ofsize. Sending the same email using Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 the email is received correctly. There is no content restriction in place of any kind. No antispam, antivirus or such. There are a couple of topics to be found on the Internet but none of those present a decent workaround/solution. For reference: http://www.mombu.com/microsoft/exchange-server-clients/t-owa-2007-inline-conversion-856713.html http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/12009443/m/263005104831 http://knicksmith.blogspot.com/2007/03/exchange-2007-and-outlook-2003-where.html http://www.developerfood.com/re-entourage-2004-exchange-2007sp1-attachement-problem/microsoft-public-mac-office-entourage/45318c35-7d47-47aa-9264-91ccfa8d780a/article.aspx According to Knicksmith (one of the links above) the issue has somewhat to do with a "inline conversion" bug within Exchange 2007. This issue is presumably resolved in security rollup 3. I am currently running SR4 but the problem still persists. I am able to reproduce this problem over and over again. Hopefully we can works this out, that would be great! Cheers, David

I'm affraid we are left alone with this issue... A feasable workaround is creating an additional POP account in Entourage where only filling in the name and email address of the user and a SMTP server. You are able to save the account without defining a POP3 (incoming mail) server. Then instruct the user when sending attachments to use the created account to send the email. Cons: - Additional action required from the user - Send mail are stored in the local sent items folder (thus not available in the mailbox/owa) Pro: - Entourage users are able to send attachments outside of the organisation Please be aware of the following: When entourage send attachments within the organisation the attachments are "untouched" but when forwardingan entourage sent email using OWA outside the organisation the same issue occures. Hi guys, Yes, we have this exact same problem. Our users are using the latest Entourage 2004 and we use a hosted Exchange 2007 service provider. Our hoster has said they are already patched up to Security Rollup 4 though and we just had another user report the problem today. It does not seem to matter what's on the recipient side, the attachment shows up as corrupt (a bit over 0KB) in various webmail clients such as Gmail or in email clients such as Outlook. Has there been any update on this issue? I hope Microsoft is aware of this bug and are activelyworking on a fix. We're an ad agency and 50% of our machines are Macs so this is a big problem for us. Cheers, Derek

We are getting reports of this exact issue. We are also at Update Rollup 4. I noticed that Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 is out and one of the issues that is fixes sounds similar to the problem everyone is having: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941421 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940080/ I approved the update for installation, so in the next couple of days, I should know if it fixes the issue or not. Thank you for your post! It seems that MS solved quite a few entourage/mac/exchange 2007 compatibility issues with sr4 and 5. Also IMAP, just for info Cheers! David

Hi, We have the same problem, we're running exchange server 2007 (up to date with Rollup5). When we are sending for example a JPG or eps file form a mac in our network made with creativeSuite3 the attachment result external in 0 Kb. Internal no problem. An older jpg or eps (Made in creative suite 1) doens't give problems as well (Both extern as intern the organisation). More strangely: If we send the jpg/eps file through webacces it also doens't give problems. I think it is an combined problem between CS3 and the SMPT server exchange 2007. Is there anyone who has had the same problem and resolved it ? Thanx ! Gert

Hi All, We are having the same issue, Ex 07 (rollup 5), Windows SP1, HP DL380 G5. It appears that our marketing dept get's a lot of images from designers who use mac's. If we forward these messages to anyone outside the organisation it appears to go through as 0KB. If we forward the attachment inside the organisation there are no problems at all. I have tried changing the email options within Outlook 2003 to see if that helped but it does not seem to help. The only way to get around this at present is to save the attachment and create a new email and re attach the attachment. I hope Microsoft fixes this issue as it's becoming a huge issue as the number of Exchange 07 install's grows. Please let me know if anyone finds a fix Thanks Naresh
