Enabling Windows Server Backup for Exchange 2007 SP3 over Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi everybody, I need some help about backup of Exchange Server 2007 SP3 over Windows Server 2008 R2, I don´t know if the backup for Exchange 2007 SP3 is implemented out of the box for Windows Server Backup in Windows Server 2008 R2, I have done a backup job of the volume that contains my exchange databases and it works succesfully but in the properties of the databases the Last Full Backup property in EMC is in blank that means the backup job didn't include the databases, in another hand when I try to restore the backup, the restore wizard only show me options to recover de full volume and to recover files, but Application options is grayed. In the other hand I ran the VSSAdmin list Writers, command to validate if the Exchange Writer is registered and installed and it looks like it be installed: C:\Windows\system32>VSSAdmin List Writers Writer name: 'Microsoft Exchange Writer' Writer Id: {76fe1ac4-15f7-4bcd-987e-8e1acb462fb7} Writer Instance Id: {4ebfeadc-a8cc-4542-8ea8-ea2a2bfd3777} State: [1] Stable Last error: No error I also ran the VSSAdmin List Providers command and I got the following: C:\Windows\system32>VSSAdmin list providers vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool (C) Copyright 2001-2005 Microsoft Corp. Provider name: 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0' Provider type: System Provider Id: {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5} Version: 1.0.0.7 I think maybe I need to enable sommething in the register, or maybe it not works in Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange Server 2007 SP3. any help will be welcommed. Thanks in advance Felxs Felx

I don't have an answer for your problem, but this might help you to work out if you have everything in place: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee221172(EXCHG.80).aspx and there are more details here about the various options you should select to make sure that the backup works: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee221177(EXCHG.80).aspxOutlook Web Access For PDA , OWA For WAP www.owa-pda.com email a@t leederbyshire d.0.t c.0.m

I have done a backup job of the volume that contains my exchange databases and it works succesfully but in the properties of the databases the Last Full Backup property in EMC is in blank Hi Felx, If you store the Exchange database and related transaction logs in the different volume, and you just select the database volume to make a VSS full backup, it will be shown Successful but the property will be blank, Application options is grayed as well. You should select both database and log volume.Frank Wang

I have the same issue. Data store and logs on the same drive (D:) while the program files etc are on C:. Making backup with WSB of the D: volume produces a lot of files on F: (separate disk for backups), but the "Mailbox Database properties" dialogue shows nothing on Last full backup or Last incremental backup. Also all the log files are still there, it seems they are not truncated. Any answers to this? Was the correct version of WSB, the Exchange-aware one, that was included in SP2, forgotten in SP3? I installed Exchange 2007 with SP1 included and added SP3, ie I never installed SP2. /DanielRDaniel SR Systems engineer Sweden
