Enable AO internally before Ex2013 migration

Hi all,

we are planning to migrate from 2010 to 2013 in septembre.

We have 2 datacenter A and B. A is internet-facing. Async is the only service publish through the internet.

On june, we would like to enable Outlook anywhere internally (only) AO wont be published ! Only on lan purpose. On the link below https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123741%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx Microsoft say :

"Outlook Anywhere should be enabled only on Client Access servers that are exposed to the Internet. Do not enable Outlook Anywhere on internal Client Access servers"

but i think this advice if for Outlook anywhere external use ! but what if for internal only ? should we enable AO on all CAS for internal  ?

Obviously, when we ll install the first 2013 in organisation, no choice, we must enable AO on all CAS. but before coexistence scenario ?

As you can see, it s a little bit confused :(

Hi,

About "Outlook Anywhere should be enabled only on Client Access servers that are exposed to the Internet. Do not enable Outlook Anywhere on internal Client Access servers", my understanding is that we can enable Outlook Anywhere for external users on Internet-facing server. And then it can be proxyed to other internal CAS server.

When you are using Exchange 2013 coexisted with Exchange 2010, we can enable Outlook Anywhere in Exchange 2010 and point the external host name to Exchange 2013. Then the external users can connect to Exchange 2013 which is internet-facing, the Exchange 2013 would determine the mailbox version is 2010 and proxy the request to Exchange 2010.
