Emails sent to Exchange 2007 lost
I'm using outlook 2007 (on XP) & exchange 2007 (on Windows 2008). Everything was working fine, but suddenly emails sent to self are not received. Restarting outlook does not help. I checked the event viewer on the exchange server. There are multiple instances of these entries since yesteday, so obviously something went wrong yesterday on the server. There seems to be some issue with Active Directory, but I did not change anything on the server. 1. Source = MSExchangeFDS, EventId = 1007 (lots of this entry) Process MSExchangeFDS.exe (PID=2796). Unhandled exception occured in worker thread OABReplicationManager Thread. Exception message: Cannot find information about the local server e2k7-2 in Active Directory. This may be related to a change in the server name. Current synchronization task is aborted 2. Source = MSExchangeMailboxAssistants, EventId = 10003 Could not get the server configuration object from Active Directory. Microsoft.Exchange.Assistants.MissingObjectException: Unable to find a valid server config object in the directory for the local server. 3. Source = MSExchangeTransportLogSearch, EventId = 7005 Microsoft Exchange couldn't read the configuration from the Active Directory directory service because of error: Failed to load config due to exception: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.LocalServerNotFoundException: Cannot find information about the local server e2k7-2 in Active Directory. It is referring to the server name being changed, is this true? Have you rebooted the server since you had issues? Can you run a BPA report and post any errors or warnings?Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Thanks for the responses. Additional info: The exchange server is also the domain controller. - I did not change the server name. - I have rebooted the server couple of times. Did not help. - Question: Can you please tell me or give a pointer to how to run a BPA report? - Question: If you go to AD-> <your domain> -> Computers, should you see an entry for the domain controller itself. I see entries for the client PCs, but not the domain controller. - I also see these errors from NETLOGON (many entries with different hostnames): The dynamic registration of the DNS record '_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.ForestDnsZones.e2k7-d2.pbu.juniper.net. 600 IN SRV 0 100 389 e2k7-2.' failed on the following DNS server: DNS server IP address: :: Returned Response Code (RCODE): 0 Returned Status Code: 0 For computers and users to locate this domain controller, this record must be registered in DNS. USER ACTION Determine what might have caused this failure, resolve the problem, and initiate registration of the DNS records by the domain controller. To determine what might have caused this failure, run DCDiag.exe. To learn more about DCDiag.exe, see Help and Support Center. To initiate registration of the DNS records by this domain controller, run 'nltest.exe /dsregdns' from the command prompt on the domain controller or restart Net Logon service. Or, you can manually add this record to DNS, but it is not recommended. I'm not sure I understand your question - IPv6 is enabled (I think Exchange 2007 requires it to be enabled). After I saw the NETLOGON DNS error, I went to IPv6 Properties on the network adapter and disabled the IPv6 DNS server. I tried installing ExBPA.msi. It needs .NET Framework 1.1. If you install the .NET 1.1, it warns that 'This software has known incompatibility with IIS services on this platform'. Should I ignore this warning? Does not seem to be a good idea to ignore.

Your dsaccess seems ok. Seems like from the logs it complaining about SRV records for your DC. Try stopping the netlogon and starting again. Also, do ipconfig /registerdns Sukh

Sounds like more of a DC/AD issue than an Exchange issue. How many DC's in your environment? Run DCDiag.Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Find yourself a management PC or something and run from there. I'd consider running the ADBPA too.

Should I ignore this warning? Does not seem to be a good idea to ignore. Stop right there. ExBpa is built in to Exchange 2007 and can be run from the toolbox in EMC. If you can't run the ExBpa in EMC, run ExBpa from a workstation. If Exchange is installed on a DC, it will only use itself for AD info, so it sounds like a DNS issue.

Under 'Computer -> Properties' found that the full computer name did not have the domain name. Fix: Go to 'System Properties -> Computer Name' where you change the domain or workgroup. Click on 'Change'. In new dialog click on 'More'. In new dialog, fill in 'Primary DNS suffix of this computer'. Commit change and reboot. So somehow this setting must have changed, which effectively changed the server name. I know I did not change it. Now I see the previously 'lost' emails in Inbox. Some of the tests run by 'dcdiag /c' still fail. I need to look at that. The exchange server is working which is what I care about now. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond. Hari
