Email forwarding and Shared Address Space

Here is my issue:  Two companies ABC and XYZ.  Both have Office 365 Exchange Servers in the cloud.

My company abc.com recently sold a division and the email address of the sold division is xyz.com.  Employees of xyz.com used to have email addresses at abc.com.  For the next three months or so I need to forward all of prior ABC employees now at XYZ to xyz.com.

Example:  Fred worked for ABC and had email at fred@abc.com.  Now Fred works for XYZ and has email at fred@xyz.com.  Fred will continue to to receive email at fred@abc.com and this email needs to flow to fred@xyz.com.  It is not practical to keep Fred as a licensed  user of ABC Office 365.

What are my options.  I have tried to setup a send connector for email for abc.com to send to xyz.com but I get an error that a mail routing loop was encountered.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim,

The most advisable practice is create email contact of fred@xyz.com at abc.com and from the properties of the mailbox of fred@abc.com, set the forwarding address as fred@xyz.com contact. You may have two options for forwarding. One is forward emails without keeping local copy and forward emails with a local copy

Thanks Winnie,

In the example Fred does not have an email account at abc.com.  abc.com does not have the budget for Fred to have an email account on Office 365.  I really need the email to flow to xyz.com's Office 365 account where Fred has an account.  I am hoping that I can use a shared address space with another Office 365 account like you can setup with an Office 365 Exchange Account and an on premise exchange server.

Thanks, Tim
