Email address not changed
Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008. I have gone into the Exchange Console and changed the email address of a user and set it as the reply address and all the screens show this but when I try to change it in Outlook 2010 on a client, it is still getting emails from the old address (tested by sending a mail to it). Any advice appreciated. Many thanks for your time.

Not sure what you mean by "but when I try to change it in Outlook 2010 on a client". You can't change the default SMTP address in an Outlook MAPI client or with OWA. I would recheck what you changed on the server end and verify that the address you have set as the default replay is still set that way. If your email address policy is set for that account, then it may be automatically changing the default reply. I assume that is not checked to automatically update the address based on the email address policy since you just changed it, but worth checking.

If I change the "set as reply" to the new email address, should I retick the "automatically update email addresses based on the email address policy"? If I do it seems to swap back. But I now have a problem when I send messages from this account. They are rejected with "there is a forwarding loop configured in the directory ". Advice appreciated. Many thanks for your time.

Many thanks for your time. No, leave it unchecked unless you have an email policy for that new default reply. Leaving it unchecked will exempt that account from processing and leave the default reply as you want it.

Your original issue was due to the OAB. The offline is by default regenerated once per day and downloaded once per by Outlook You can manually force both. The OAB can be regenarated in the EMC and after that the OAB can be downloaded. As for your loop, you must of done a forwording configuration on the user

Thanks, I will leave it unchecked. Not sure what OAB is but I have not canged any default SBS Exchange policies or whatever. The "loop" problem I think occured when I logged on remotely to my admin account AND at the same time from the same laptop logged on to a user account and tried to send an email. Is this possible? I have not had the problem since so far. Many thanks for your time.

Hi, You can see this thread about How Do I set a Reply Address in Exchange 2007 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrtransport/thread/3928de1d-bb57-4bf5-b9fb-3d57c88cbdc3/ Note: You could select the Default Policy (under the Hub transport role) and change it, or add a new one, which will have a higher precedence. Else those changes will not take effect on this user. Lafontma's suggestion is right. I have reproduce the issue before i update the OAB (Offline Address Book) manually.

Well, it seems to be working now. I have not interferred with the default policy at this time. It may be partly my confusion (and panic!) but I also had an Outlook on the client which would repair the .ost and then immediately hang (so we had to force power down each time - Outlook would open OK but as soon as something was clicked it hung). I deleted all the profiles and .ost and reconnected to Exchange and that seems to have solved the problem. Only thing is how do I get the backup emails into the new account when there is possibly a corruption in that file which may move into the new .ost? Many thanks for your time.

Hi, you could create a mailbox repair request to detect and repair mailbox corruptions. For how to create a mailbox repair request : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/ff625221.aspx

Hi, This forum is for exchange related issues. For questions about SBS 2008 , please use the “SBS forum” which would be the most relevant forum for your question. SBS forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/threads TechNet
