Sounds like you're looking for an email address policy. Read the following article and let us know if you have any more questions.

I have successfully created the emai address policy for the new accepted domain.

What I want to do now is create a new user and have the user's smtp address be that of the accepted domain and not my default domain.

In the address policy you created, did you make some sort of criteria? An example of what can be done is in the properties of the user, you can put a name in the "Company" field (like fabrikam) under the organization settings. In the address policy, the criteria could be that anyone in the "fabrikam" company automatically gets a 'user@fabrikam.com' email address, instead of, or in addition to an @contoso.com email address. If both email addresses are created, you can even specify which is the 'reply to' (or primary) SMTP address.

Hi B0ndoo7,

this is what I have done

1.I created an OU in active directory for the accepted domain

2.I edited the email address policy so that it is applied to users in the container created in 1 above like you advised.

But still when I create a new mailbox for an existing user in that OU, the stmp address is still that of my primary exchange domain.

Any Ideas what I could be missing ..?

So in the new policy, you:

1. gave the policy a name?

2. set an email address format (ie. firstname.lastname@fabrikam.com)?

3. set the sequence number of the policy (should be higher than the default in order of policies)?

4. applied it to "all recipient types"?

5. further defined the rule by specifying a 'recipient container' which points to the OU the AD accounts live in?

Is this all correct? In the properties window of the address policy, if you click on the "apply to" link, under the further define recipient rule, there is a hotlink that says "Preview recipients the policy applies to". Click on that, and see if you get a listing of accounts that should get the alternate email domain suffix.

Hi B0ndoo7,

thank you so much for your help. I probably did not wait long enough for the changes to propagate. I can now create email address for users in the OU.

From the new email, I can send and recieve internal mails ..I can also send external mails but cannot recieve external mails. The error I get is

==========================

yesod.webnetnspire.com rejected your message to the following email addresses:

atb4 (atb4@mydomain.com)
A problem occurred while delivering your message to this email address. Try sending your message again. If the problem continues, please contact your email admin.

yesod.webnetnspire.com gave this error:
No Such User Here"

===================

Maybe I should out that in a new post ..thanks a lot mate + point me if you can in the right direction for this new issue.

Cheers ..*

Glad you got the address policy working. As for the inability to send internally to the new domain name, forgive the stupid question, but it needs asking. Do you have public MX records defined for this other email domain?

lol ..that is so NOT a stupid question.

I have mx setup but I jst noticed that there is another mx which has a priority of 0 while mine has a priority of 5. Looks like incoming emails stop at the first record which has a priority of 0. I could see that from the NDR i got via gmail which was clearer to interprete than that of my o365 email which I tested from earlier ..gmail clearly stated the IP that it was trying to deliver email to.

I will edit my records and try again.

Thank you so much good sir ..
