Edge Transport Server 2007 co-existance with exchange server 2003 enviornment
Dear Professionals,We are planning to perform our transitioning from exchange server 2003 and Exchange server 2007 but before this ,We are planning for Edge Transport in DMZ N/W ,as there is no exchange server 2007 enviornment in our case .Exisiting Exchange setup: Exchange server 2003 two backend servers + (one front end servers located in DMZ zone) .Target:The edge tansport server + forefront for exchange installed in the same machine and edge transport is used for email relay and as a smart host .My question is that does i need to install an ADAM on my edge transport server as we dont have to install edgesync in our edge transport server (no Exchange Server 2007 enviornment in our case) ,and does forfront for exchange is a good choice for antispamming and antimalware .Please Reply on my query Thanks Syed Arsalansyed.arsalan

Yes, ADAM is required before you can install Edge on Windows 2003 (or Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services if you're deploying on Windows 2008). Don't forget that once you've migrated to Exchange 2007, you can then switch on EdgeSync anyway.Nothing wrong with ForeFront I guess, but you may want to evaluate several products first to see which best fits your needs.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

I understood what you said in your first post in that you're not using EdgeSync at this time, but that doesn't detract from the fact that ADAM is required for the Edge installation process. What I was trying to say is that you'll be in good shape for the future when you do get around to deploying Exchange 2007. The Edge Transport server without EdgeSync will just function like any other SMTP host so there should be no impact on the Exchange 2003 environment.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP
