Easy hammer

I have multiple issues with my Dell Vostro 220 that operates with "Windows Vista Business 32BIT SP1". The hard drive crashed several weeks ago and I am slowly getting it back into a useable machine. My most recent accomplishment, with the help of my IS Provider, was to get it online again. Since then however I have learned that there remains several issues that need to be corrected. It basically needs what I would call a complete overhaul.

Several drivers are missing or corrupt. Cannot get media to work at all. When attempting to update windows it sits  there on update for hours on end with nothing being updated. "Driver restorer does not work.  "Same thing with "configuration" when starting up or shutting down. In order to shut it down I have to do a forced shutdown, by holding down the power button an excessive amount of time.

Windows Help and support no longer work.

I still have the original disk(s) that came with the machine which is how I have been able to accomplish what I have thus far. I am certainly not a knowledgeable tech when it comes to computers but with my state of retirement and living on SS I got more time than anything else to work toward renewing this machine. Actually I have another Dell desktop that is stymied with "Windows XP Professional,"  but that is for another discussion at another time.
