EX2003: Renumbering SMTPSVC
I have Virtual Servers 1, 3, 4, 5. I deleted 2 and and now I want to either restore VSI 2 or rename VSI 5 to VSI 2. Whenever I create a new VSI it names it VSI 6, 7, etc. How can I recreate VSI 2 or rename VSI 5 to VSI 2?Thanks

Hi, I think you can consider the following method: 1. Use Adsiedit.msc tool to modify the related SMTP Virtual Server name (CN=5->CN=2) 2. Use Metabase Explorer to remove the DS2MB key and SMTP Virtual Server 5. 3. Restart the System Attendant service and check the result. Note: I suggest you test the method on your Test environment firstly before applying it on production environment. Mike

Thanks for pointing out the AD mods needed. I haven't tried it but that makes sense why exchange was creating CN=6 and CN=7, etc, instead of recreating the missing CN=2.
