Hi GuysWe are running Exchange 2003/2007 in co-existence...so far, we have some test mailboxes on Exchange 2007, the rest of the domain is on 2003 mailboxes.I'm trying to get my head around Exchange Management Console vs using the Exchange System Manager. So far, I have heard that when a mailbox is on 2003, we should use ESM, but when it has been moved to 2007, we should use EMC. Can someone explain why? Surely, they edit and view the same AD attributes?Secondly, I notice that (if a mailbox is on 2007), our Helpdesk can edit certain properties using the ADUC/ESM snap in, such as Send on Behalf rights. However, if they try to do this on EMC, they recieve an error message saying they don't have permission. NB, we have not assigned them the Exchange Recipient Admin rights yet since they have permissions on the Users OU anyway...any idea?Thirdly, I notice there are some features (e.g. Mailbox Management Policy) that are in EMC only and apply only to mailboxes that are on 2007 Mailbox servers. How can this be? Why aren't these applied to 2003 mailboxes as well?Thanks!

Exchange 2007 was designed purely on split permission model to make the administration ease between AD and Exchange. and hence it has its own interface to manage Recipients without interfering the ADUC. See the difference between ESM and EMC The new Exchange 2007 Management Console overview If you want to admin Exchange 2007 using ADUC you can still do it but you will have to opt for 3rd party tools as below Managing Exchange 2007 Recipients using the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC Snap-in You can still grant H/D agents to admin the Recipients over Exchange 2007 by delegating the proper permissions see below HOW TO: Delegate recipient administration for an OU MRM does works for Ex2003 MBX and EX2007 mbx in mixed mode. It just checks for the retention policy and then take the appropriate actions.
