EMC prompts that my edge transport server is not licensed
I seem to have a problem here. The Exchange Management Console has been prompting me that a server in the organization is unlicensed. It is saying the Edge Transport is the unlicensed one. We did keep the Edge Tranport unlicensed until we were sure that things were working correctly before going in and activating it. It appears that this may be the reason it is doing this. From the research I have gathered, we should have activated the Edge Transport before syncing it to the Hub Transport. Now the activation information was not transfered to the Hub Transport. I have read that you simply re-subscribe the Edge Transport and you should be good. Here is my question that frightens me. I have read that when you subcribe the Edge Transport any custom settings will be lost, doing so will completely undo any custom configurations that you might have applied to the Edge Transport server. Specifically if the Edge Transport server contains any of the following types of items, they will be deleted: Accepted domains Message classifications Remote domains Send connectors The server's InternalSMTPServers list of TransportConfig objects will also be overwritten during the Edge Subscription process. Yikes!! So, does this pertain to just the first subsciption or for a re-subscription as well? If it does, is there a way to export these settings out? Third, if I do loose these settings, where should I go to add them all back in? From what I read, you will no longer be able to make these changes on the Edge Transport itself, you would have to do it from a non-edge transport server. I havent been able to get a straight answer, so before I re-subscribe, I want to have all my bases covered. Thanks for your time.

Hi, Yes, you are right. If you manually configure the Edge Transport server and then decide to create an Edge Subscription for that server, the affected configuration objects are deleted. If the license key is applied on the Edge Transport server after you perform the Edge Subscription process, the licensing information is not updated in the Exchange organization, and you must resubscribe the Edge Transport server. So we need to backup these settings. After we finish subscription, we can configure these settings manually. Thank you for the information. I was afraid this was the news I would get. So how do I go about backing up this data so I can restore it after the new edge subscription is done?

Thank you for the information. Well, I jumped into the water with both feet today and re-subscribed the Edge Transport Server. The funny thing is, ALL my settings remained. I didnt have to add a single custom setting back in. Very interesting. I did document every tab and setting as you mentioned. (I figured there wasn't a tool to back up the settings and did it by hand). I restarted both Exchange Management Consoles on each server and now I do not get the prompt that the Edge Transport is not licensed. I may be a lucky case but I'm all good now. Thanks for you help!!!!!
