EMC get-ummailboxpin error since installing Exchange 2010
Hi, We have a server dedicated to management tools, which includes Exchange Management Tools 2007. Since installing Exchange 2010 in our environment we get the following error when viewing the properties of any user mailbox (edited name of DC and USER): --------------------------- Microsoft Exchange --------------------------- The operation could not be performed because object 'USER' could not be found on domain controller 'DC'. It was running command 'get-ummailboxpin -Identity 'USER''. --------------------------- This happens when viewing the properties of a 2007 or 2010 mailbox and causes most properties to be greyed out. If I view the properties from a server that has an Exchange role installed it works fine, it's only on this management server. When running the 'get-ummailboxpin -Identity 'USER' in powershell on the server I get this (edited name of DC and USER): [PS] C:\>Get-UMMailboxPIN "USER" WARNING: An error -2147466749 occurred. For more information, see the event logs on server 2010ExUM. Get-UMMailboxPIN : The operation could not be performed because object 'USER' could not be found on domain controller 'DC'. At line:1 char:17 + Get-UMMailboxPIN <<<< "USER" + CategoryInfo : InvalidData: (:) [Get-UMMailboxPIN], ManagementO bjectNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : A24E9274,Microsoft.Exchange.UM.Management.Tasks. GetUMMailboxPIN Checking the Event Logs on 2010ExUM shows this (unedited): Log Name: Application Source: MSExchange Unified Messaging Date: 21/03/2011 6:08:21 PM Event ID: 1174 Task Category: UMWorkerProcess Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: 2010ExUM Description: An error occurred while performing the following operation: 'Get PIN Info' for user ''. 'Microsoft.Exchange.UM.UMCommon.UMRPCIncompabibleVersionException: The Unified Messaging server can't process this request due to version incompatibility. at Microsoft.Exchange.UM.Rpc.UMVersionedRpcRequest.ExecuteRequest(UMVersionedRpcRequest request)' 2010ExUM is our Exchange 2010 UM server. My guess is that it shouldn't be going there, but how can I control that? Or is there something that has been setup incorrectly? Obviously this is causing issues with our Helpdesk and we don't want them to have direct access to the Exchange servers.

Hi Interoperability with Exchange 2007 The Exchange Management Console (EMC) is available in both Exchange Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2007. The following lists the tasks and actions that can be performed using the EMC in either Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007: Actions that create objects, such as new mailboxes or a new offline address book (OAB), can only be performed on a version of the EMC that's the same as the target object. For example, creating a mailbox on an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server must be performed with the EMC in Exchange 2007. The following applies: · Exchange 2007 Mailbox databases can't be managed from the EMC in Exchange 2010, although these databases can be viewed. · The EMC in Exchange 2010 can't enable or disable Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging mailboxes. · The EMC in Exchange 2010 can't manage Exchange 2007 mobile devices. Actions that require viewing of objects can be performed from any version of the EMC to any version of Exchange objects, with a few exceptions: · Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007 transport rule objects can only be viewed from their corresponding version of the EMC. · Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007 servers can only be viewed from their corresponding version of the EMC. · The Queue Viewer tool in the EMC in Exchange 2010 can't connect to an Exchange 2007 server to view queues or messages. Note: If an Exchange 2007 object (such as a storage group) is no longer present in Exchange 2010, there's no interoperability expected or provided because Exchange 2010 isn't aware of the feature. You can't use message tracking configuration tasks between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007. You must use Exchange 2007 messaging tracking tools within your Exchange 2007 servers, and Exchange 2010 messaging tracking tools within your Exchange 2010 servers. The following is a list of Exchange 2010-only and Exchange 2007-only objects. These objects are available for viewing, managing, and creating only in the corresponding version of the EMC. Thanks Terence, I have already read that article. It doesn't explain why I get the error when opening the properties of 2007 mailboxes with the 2007 EMC. I can see that it's trying to contact an Exchange 2010 UM server, but I don't understand why. I feel like I'm repeating myself!
