ECP Alert stuck from old exchange server.

Hey All,

I have an exchange installation that lost a server to a crash, it never got reinstalled or restored.

But this server had an expired certificate, and now the ECP keep telling me that this ghost server now have an expire certificate.

and I can't find a way to remove this alert.

I have tryed

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | Start-ManagedFolderAssistant

but that did not give anything.

Get-notification give me this error:

Get-Notification : The requesting account does not have permission to serialize tokens.

You should reinstall the failed server with the /recoverserver switch and then uninstall it to decommission itproperly.

well most of the configuration of the server is already gone from the exchange configuration.

So im not sure how it will recover the server ?

you can go to configuration partition in ADSIEDIT navigate to the server object and delete the server from the list

If the server still shows in the list of Exchange servers, then there should still be enough information around to do a recovery install to clean it up.

That is not a supported method to remove an Exchange Server any longer.  The only method Microsoft supports is an uninstall from Add/Remove Programs.

Hi,

What's the detailed Exchange environment in your organization? Exchange 2010 coexist with Exchange 2013 or pure Exchange 2013 environment?

If you want to uninstall the old server to install a new one, please remove the Exchange server from Control Panel(Programs and Features). If you want to recover the crashed server, we can recover a lost server by using the Setup /m:RecoverServer switch in Microsoft Exchange Server 2013. For more information about recover an Exchange server, please refer to:

Ok... this is one the reasons Microsoft doesn't support pulling Exchange out in this manner.  Do you see the certificate listed if you run Get-ExchangeCertificate

No it's not listed.

I don't usually like to suggest this, but since you went through and removed the old server via adsiedit you might be better off calling MSFT support.  they should be able to help you clean the rest of that server up.

Hi,

Please try the following steps in the old Exchange server (Please export a backup copy before delete the certificate in case there is anything wrong):
1.  Start > Run, type MMC and enter.
2.  In the open window, click File > Add/Remove snap in
3.  In the Available snap-ins tab, select Certificates > Add > Computer account > Local computer > Finish > ok.
4.  Expand Certificates (Local Computer) > Personal > Certificates.
5.  In the right result pane, please find the expired certificate.
6.  Export it then delete it. Then check whether the issue persists.
