E2K7 - Managing Mail Enabled Public Folders after Migration from E2K3
Dear all, I successfully migrated from E2K3 to E2K7. Public Folders have been migrated as well. Accessing them with the GUI included with E2K7 SP1 works fine.Problem is that we have several mail enabled public folders. Although receiving emails when being sent to PF email addresses I cannot see nor edit them with the GUI. Furthermore we had a forwarding rule enabled directly on the PF with Outlook in the past, i.e. incoming mails had automatically been forwarded to a distribution group notifying selected users of new emails. Now incoming emails are correctly directed to the pulic folders but forwarding a notifier doesn't work anymore. The E2K3 has been fully decommissioned. ESM is not available anymore. What can I do without having the dig deeper into cmdlets?RegardsAlex

you can use PFDAVAdmin tool for some familiar operations.. as for the outlook rule, i assume you've tried to re-create it ? best regards MCSA Messaging

Well, I tried to check the Properties of the corresponding PF with Outlook 2007. But the required settings are not available anymore.

i guess then you can solve this with some workaround with distribution lists ? having the PF a member and the recipients of the rule in it too .. MCSA Messaging

Hi,You can create Transport Rule to achieve the mail forwarding.Regards,Zoltnhttp://www.clamagent.org - Free Antivirus for Exchange http://www.it-pro.hu http://emaildetektiv.hu

Combined with the PFDavAdmin tools, this should solve your issue. We have started to move Public Folders into Mailboxes which gives us more control and flexability over the resource. We just found that 2007 really is not designed nor fully capable for Public Folders if you are used to 2003.Would also HIGHLY recommend getting used to the Powershell commands. They really are very useful.

Hi,I absolutelly agree with that. The long term goal to migrate Public Folders to SharePoint. Today it is not completly possible but it looks like that the Public Folders will disapear from Exchange somewhere in the future.Regards,Zoltnhttp://www.clamagent.org - Free Antivirus for Exchange http://www.it-pro.hu http://emaildetektiv.hu

Troubleshooting: 1. Quote: I cannot see nor edit them with the GUI; But the required settings are not available anymore What do you mean about the words above? Do you mean that you cant find the Administration and Permissions tab in the Properties of that public folder via outlook? 2. Please confirm the account you tried to modify the permission of public folder via outlook has proper access rights? a. Launch EMS, use the cmdlet below Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity "\NameOfProblemFolder" | fl b. Check the output to see if the account you used has Owner rights against the public folder 3. If the account didnt have the Owner right, please add it a. Launch EMS on the mailbox server that contains the public folder store, use the cmdlet below Add-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity "\ NameOfProblemFolder" -User James -AccessRights Owner b. Go to outlook and see if you can modify the public folder now 4. Please create a new public folder, and grant the its owner permission to your account again, see if forward rule can work on this brand new folder 5. If the rule can work on a new public folder, then the issue will be isolated to the problematic public folder themselves. Now, we can use PFDAVAdmin as Ilantz suggested. You can refer to the troubleshooting steps of my first post in this thread to check the DACL status and the permissions of the problematic folder 6. If all things look well via PFDAVAdmin, please try to back the data of problematic folder and recreate it, see if the issue still persists

Well, I'd like to activate automatic replies as soon as anybody posts a message to a public folder as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903289/en-usWith E2K3 it worked just fine. After migrating to E2K7 the rules are still there but don't work. Adding new rules doesn't change anything. Is this functionality still available? RegardsAlex

Yes, the function is still available Can the issue be reproduced on a newly created public folder? Please try to mail-disable and mail-enable the problematic folder, see if the issue still persists Please check the mailNickname attribute of the problematic folder via ADSI Editor, the public folder will break if theres any space in the value of mailNickname attribute a. Launch ADSI Editor b. Expand DC=DomainName,DC=com>CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects c. In the right-pane, right-click the problematic public folder object and select Properties d. In the Attribute Editor tab, check the value of mailNickname attribute Notes: If you are using windows server 2008, the Attribute Editor tab can be seen in the Properties of public folder object via ADUC

Forwarding now works in case the recipient is a single mail-enabled user. Changing the recipient to a mail-enabled universal distribution group doesn't work.I've delegated the Send As right to the aforementioned distribution group but it did not succeed. Although the corresponding distribution group as owner rights on the required PF as well.

Ok. I finally succeeded in installing PFDAVAdmin (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=635BE792-D8AD-49E3-ADA4-E2422C0AB424&displaylang=en) and was able to configure all PF email notification settings as they were configured in E2K3.RegardsAlex
