Hi All Just migrated from e2k3 to e2k7sp1, With out of office we have notice that replies sent out to the internet have no sender name, and getting blocked by a policy, don't worry about blocking bit though seperate issue. If i move same mailbox back to e2k3 it is fine, out of office goes out with senders name on it. What am i missing here, is there a bug in e2k7sp1 ?? Thanks for any help Scott

Hi Scott, Firstly, I would like to confirm: 1. Whether the issue only occurs when sending the Out of Office message to Internet user? 2. Please also let me know your Exchange Environment. In addition, Scott, please check whether any rules are enabled on the Exchange organization/Edge Server to remove/set header value (Remove header/set header with value). I would like to explain that if the From header information is removed, the sender will not be displayed correctly. If the above rules are not enabled on the Exchange organization, please temporarily set a transport rule to CC the OOF message to a specific user: 1. Conditions: When the subject field contains Out of Office: and from usernameA 2. Action: Add a recipient in the To field usernameB After that, please attempt to send an email to the userA who is Out of Office and look at userBs mailbox to check whether the sender of Out of Office message is correctly. If the sender name does not exist, please post the email header information here. Mike

Thanks for reply mike. Yes it is to the Internet. I think i've kind of resolved it. We have a Exchange 2007 still attached to our old 2003 system. Out of office messages from 2003 to the internet are fine. But 2007 appear to have no sender name until the reach the recieving mailbox. I discovered a rule on an external company ( Mimecast ) that we route our internet mail through. The rule was to block out going messsages with sender as <> . I stopped this rule and out of office mails from 2007 arrived. When we looked at the mails going through out mimesweeper and mimecast there was no indication of the sender. I have a feeling this is a security feature of 2007. But can't find it documented anywhere.

Hi Scott, You are right. Message Disposition Notification (MDN) messages are defined in RFC 2298. Message Disposition Notification (MDN) messages should be sent with blank sender. This behavior is new in Exchange 2007, as in Exchange 2003 and earlier OOF messages were sent with Sender field populated.
