E2010 Hub Transport Installation fails
Our topology consists of 1 parent domain and 3 child domains. The parent domain is not used for active logons. We are deploying Exchange 2010 and the install went fine in the first child domain. Now we are attempting the install in the second child domain (we have not attempted in the third and final child domain yet), but the HT role fails to install with the following error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); Add-DelegatedGroupsToLocalAdminGroup -DomainController $RoleDomainController " was run: "Failed to read directory object with distinguished name MYEXCHANGESERVER.". The environment was prepared, the Microsoft System Objects container exists with the Universal Group. When the installation is being run, the computer object is added as a member of "Exchange Install Domain Servers" in the local domain as well as the "Exchange Servers" group of the Forest Root domain. The difference between the installations in the first and second domains is that the first domain was deployed with Server 2008 SP2, the second domain is being deployed with 2008 R2 SP1. The installation source is an Exchange 2010 SP1 disc and IPv6 is disabled (but not at first). I have disabled IPv6 by first deselecting it from the NIC and then through the registry change. Initially the registry entry "DisabledComponents" existed was set to 0x000000ff (255), I changed it to 0xffffffff but still no success. Please let me know if you have any ideas, thanks.

Hi, Did you remember to prepare all the child domains? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Thanks, yes, it was ran. I even ran setup.com /preparedomain against this child domain again anyway just in case it was somehow missed when the domains were prepared. The process completed and still the same problem :(

Does it ever end...? So here is the scoop. I deleted the computer account from AD and joined the server back to the domain (it was deployed via SCCM 2007 and the computer object is automatically created in the correct OU by our deployment process). Once I did, the installation process proceeded further but still errored with: [Error] there are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. The server is deployed with the firewall service disabled, so I enabled the service and turned off all 3 firewall profiles and re-ran the install. The installation proceeded further again, but still errored with: [ERROR] The domain is invalid. Property Name: Domain. The FQDN is made up of all supported characters as outlined here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430742(EXCHG.80).aspx I have since run the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer and have no critical issues or any mention about the hostname or DNS namespace. The SPN for the computer object is set to HOST/hostname and HOST/hostname.domain.do-main.com Anyone have any idea what the cause is of the HT role to error with [ERROR] The domain is invalid. Property Name: Domain.?

Thanks, yes, the error is the same. I did see that article which is why I did verify the SPN and have a HOST/NBTname and another SPN as HOST/hostname.domain.do-main.com so it is correctly registered against the computer object. I also removed the system from the domain and joined it back earlier which got me past my initial issue in the first post. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Thanks man, that was it! Stupid me, I just read about the invalid characters, but didn't follow though with the rest of the article. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.
