E-mail Forwarding Question - Exchange 2003 to 2010
We are performing a migration from 2003 to 2010. We have a ton of users that refuse to go under quota. There's a 2003 environment (that we had admin access to) and a 2010 environment (which we have no admin access to) . The migration only moves users who's mailbox is under the size (50Mb) and item (2000) requirements. Our situation is that we will be exporting the mail of the users who aren't compliant, 2) We then set the forward on their 2003 mailbox to send to the new 2010 exchange system and 3) reimporting the mail via Exmerge back into their 2003 mailbox. Now the thing is, when we reimport mail back into their 2003 mailbox, it now has a the forwarder attached to their mailbox and mail that goes into the root of the "Inbox" automatically gets fowarded over to the new 2010 environment when we import it back in via Exmerge. However e-mail in SUBFOLDERS of the inbox do NOT automatically get forwarded. Is there anyway that anyone knows of to allow the imported mail in the SUBFOLDERS to automatically get forwarded as well when we import the mail back in via exmerge. Thank you for your assistance

Why aren't the administrators of the target system doing this move of mailboxes? It's a pretty easy thing to do. >Our situation is that we will be exporting the mail of the users who aren't compliant, 2) We then set the forward on their 2003 mailbox to send to the new 2010 exchange system and 3) reimporting the mail via Exmerge back into their 2003 mailbox. Why not just import the PST into the new mailbox? What you're proposing seems like an awful lot of work when compared to just moving the mailboxes to the new server. If I understand what you're doing, you're use Outlook rules to do this forwarding? There's a reason why they're called "Inbox rules". That's the only place they work. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

How do you forward the imported mail automatically to Exchange 2010 environment, via Outlook rules? As Rich mentioned, why do you use message forwarder feature instead of PST importing? It’s highly recommended to export the PST and import it to relevant mailbox on Exchange 2010 directly. To do this, you can reduce mail flow procedure and save more server resource. Thanks. We don't have this as an option.. Again, configuring the way the mail is imported into 2010 is NOT an option. This is a Military/DoD type environment so we don't have any flexibility in that. 50Mb has been set as the quota probably because of the million plus users eventually to be migrated.. Again, we will NOT have administrative rights to the new mail system, so the only user that can directly import it is the end user.

If you havent to access to the new system then why dont you import the PST via Outlook on the client end. Move your folders.messages around as you need.Sukh
