E-Mail Addresses not created automatically for newly created Users/Groups - Exchange 2007
Hello, I have Exchange 2007 on Windows server 2008. When new accounts are created (Users/Groups), E-Mail Addresses are not updated automatically due to some reason. But when "Automatically update e-mail addresses" check is enabled (actually unchecked before checking) then accounts get assigned with the proper addresses and are also shown in the Address Book. This process needs to be done manually for each account created. Can anybody help me out of this, as it is getting tedious day-by-day. Regards, khattaking

Are you using any templates or any other applicationto create users? By default "Automatically update e-mail addresses" should be always checked. This helps the users to get the SMTP address from the email address policy that you have defined. Also check your email address policy.Raj

Raj, our Help Desk is using a third party application to create accounts but the problem is also experienced when accounts are created through AD even. Default email address policy is in place. Please mention if something in particular needs to be checked. Grateful, khattaking

You mean that if now create a new mailbox via EMC, also with new user object (Not existing user object), the Automatically update e-mail addresses based on e-mail address policy option is unchecked by default?James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

If I create a new mailbox via EMC, there is no such problem and "Automatically update e-mail addresses based on e-mail address policy" option is CHECKED. Problem is faced only when accounts are created through AD or through a third party application. khattaking

When you are on exchnage 2007, you can create a USER on AD and then corrospoding mail box through exchange. Is this what you are doing??As far as application goes, I have seen certain application where as the option is unchecked and this is done purposely. Say in case of hosted exchange where you have multiple email policy is running and none is set to default.Raj

If you create a user object via ADUC, the checkbox wont be selected via EMC? If so, the cause can be narrowed to AD part during the user object creation, which must be certain wrong/missing attributes
Please use Ldp.exe to compare the dump between fine object and problematic object (KB 271201)
Please also compare the output between good and bad by using Get-Mailbox cmdletJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Yes Raj, this is exactly what I have to do. Create an account in ADUC and then for mailbox I have to enable the "Automatically update e-mail addresses" check of the corresponding account for its mailbox. As far as the application settings are concerned, I have double checked for any 'purposely setting' for option being unchecked but it is not the case. James, I have gone through the process of creating accounts and made sure that all attributes are properly provided but unfortunately there is no change in the behavior. I also did a bit working on output of both GOOD and BAD accounts but apart from particular changes which are there, I am unable to understand what to look for exactly. For ready reference, I am pasting results of Get-Mailbox command for both accounts under headings GOOD and BAD. Please be kind enough to have a look at it. Get-Mailbox BAD :

I didn't see much useful info from the Get-Mailbox, you can compare the user object dump between the good and badJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
