No. You should see it as a Query-based Distribution Group. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

In ADUC, it shows up as type msExchangeDynamicDistributionList in the OU where you have created it. But it is not too interesting to view those groups with ADUC. Hi Jon I checked the above links which is talks about the RecipientContainer. i checked the RecipientContainer in EMC and found the RecipientContainer is take as my domainname\users (xyz.co.in\usres) but my scenario is different, why should am unable to see the DDG in Dsa.msc. i searched in the OU "users" and as well in Entire Directory Will it show only if the DDG created through dsa.msc like New --> msExchangeDynamicDistributionList ?

You cannot create a DDG in ADUC. But in the EMC, on the general tab, you can see the OU where the DDG is created. In ADUC, you can see this group as object class msExchDynamicDistributionList, not as a group you can search for. In addition to the General tab, there is an Object and Security tab. That's all. ADSI Edit will provide a lot more information, Interesting parts are msExchDynamicDLFilter and msExchQueryFilter, as discussed in Bharat Suneja's "Adventures with OPATH." ADUC uses LDAP, while Exchange 2007 uses OPATH, which is native to .NET on which PowerShell is built and is supposed to built more efficient queries that don't tax the Exchange servers too much. With the release of Exchange 2007 the management tools for AD and Exchange are not so very compatibel. If you really want to manage DDGs in ADUC, take a look at Exchange Tasks. http://www.u-btech.com/products/exchange-tasks-2007.html Managing Exchange 2007 Recipients using the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC Snap-in http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-exchange-2007-recipients-active-directory-users-computers-mmc-snap-in.htmlMCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

Thanks Jon for your reply. i don't want to manage the DDG via ADUC. but i am having the doubt whether the DDG created in EMC will show in ADUC or not? i understand that DDG which was created in EMC will not be shown in ADUC while searching. .Correct me if am wrong.?

You can do a custom search in ADUC and enter for instance this simple LDAP query: (objectClass=msExchDynamicDistributionList) This query will return all your dynamic distribution groups. The DDGs will however not show up if you enter Find Users, Contacts, and Groups.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

You have to use a "Custom Search" and click the "Advanced" tab. Then use the LDAP query 'objclass=msExchDynamicDistributionList'. >, i can able to see the normal Mail enabled Distriubution List . You can do it from the EMC and EMS, too! No need to use other tools. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
